persimmon tree: roots or branches

i have fuyu persimmon tree over 5 or 7 years old which freezes every year and comes back in late spring. which part of this tree counts to produce fruit: root age or branches age. I plan to dig it out this coming fall and keep it in the container. if i manage to save it in the container is it going to fruit in the near year (s) because root is old enough to produce or do i have to wait for branches to get much older like for example 5,6,7 years? Every year new branches start growing at the base of soil line and they are about 4 feet tall now and just few months old but root is old.
