In our house, we have hardwood on the entire first floor (kitchen, entry, powder room, dining room, etc.) except for the living room where we put carpet in. On the 2nd floor, we have carpet everywhere except for the upstairs bath and master bath (both of which have tile that is outdated).

Here's the dilemma - the carpet was installed improperly and as a result needs to be replaced (good news is that the carpet retailer gave me a full refund for it including the install labor). What I would like to do is install vinyl plank or vinyl tiles in the family room and throughout the upstairs (as well as the two upstairs bathrooms albeit a different style in the bathrooms). The dilemma is that I don't want the vinyl in the family room to look weird next to the hardwood in the kitchen. Same question on the upstairs where we have wood stairs and railings with a wood plate at the bottom. Any ideas on colors / styles and/or materials that we could use to pull this off so that it looks like we planned it this way? I'm attaching pictures so that you get the idea. Thanks in advance!
