hon, stand back somewhere so we can see the layout. you're giving us close up of corners with a pile. if you can't (try standing back in the doorway, or on a step stool, or shoot from the window standing outside) then perhaps draw a layout.

please provide more info.

as for the nook, do you want a little desk area there?

I want this bedroom to be my haven. I read a lot in my spare time so I was thinking a reading nook. Also considered tucking a desk or closet in there. I could use a writing desk for my work. I'm not much of a painter or good at DIY building. I have nothing- no art or any other furniture. I've given everything away or thrown it out. I'm pretty much starting from scratch. I'm aiming for affordable items (e.g. ikea) but I haven't set a price cap. I'm happy to purchase art work, mirrors. Planning the layout has proven to be too complicated for me. I will post pictures of rooms that I love. Thanks for your help Beth H.

perfect. thanks. that little nook will be perfect for a little work space. it's a very simple DIY. if I gave you a link to a blog that shows how to do simple DIY projects, would you be open to it? how about some friends or family? anyone to give you a hand?

this was what I was thinking for the nook area.

both of these are very simple to do. Simple shelving, or you can get plain plywood cut to size and paint. (spray paint them if you like)

desktop, same thing. any material, even remnant stone or quartz pieces (craigslist or kijiji)

you can also look on there for desks. anything in your size that will fit. then paint it.

as for painting, it's easy enough to learn. Home Depot and lowes often give classes on how to do things around the home. you tube is also a wealth of info. don't cut yourself short.

can you turn your bed so that it's between the nook and the window? would that work? then you could do a nightstand under the two windows in the corner

all of these are doable. get your bed positioned where you want it, and go from there.

Please send the link for the desk. If I can't do it myself I will try to find another solution. I'm intrigued by the remnant stone /quartz idea - what do you mean? is that the material for the desk?

if you kept everything all white, then I would look for a vintage dresser. like one of these walnut types. you can find these all over craigslist or thrift stores, yard sales, flea markets, etc. bargain for them.

this room reminded me of your configuration. I love the black walls

vintage type of armoire? more clothes storage and they use more vertical space. this isn't the best example, but it's a small room like you have.

keeping things white w/lots of art. keep frames the same types. this is also a nook, but they put in a chest of drawers.

another more feminine option. walls here are Pale Oak, BM.

as for your nook. you would either put cleats on the wall (basically a small ledge all the way around so the wood or stone piece would set on it. with stone you would prob have to do two front legs as well for support. (either top a piece of plywood w/it, or use the piece w/brackets) not a big deal. just look up "how to do a desk nook", or something w/that wording. Pinterest will have more pics and links to how to's.

if you find a desk that's 3' across, you could just inset it and use that.

for instance, in my bathroom we installed a piece of marble for my makeup vanity. used a some heavy iron brackets rated at over 50lbs each. This marble piece weighs less than 100lbs, so it's fine. you could do 3 of the iron ones if you like.

you can find these small remnants on craigslist or just go to a fabricators shop. they usually throw small pieces in the trash. (you would want whatever your width is, by about 12-14 inches deep) 20-40 bucks at the most for one of those remnants. marble, quartz, granite,,,you could use any of them. then just find a little chair, and put up 3 or 4 shelves from ikea, above it.

I see now what you meant about the remnants. It looks very good. And wow! I absolutely love the black walls -unbelievable. The room doesn't look dark and gloomy at all! I wish I had those beautiful white frames around my windows.

I'm taking your advice on vintage armoire. I'll look for something tall to fit my clothes.
