Induction Range

Trying to choose our range for our kitchen remodel. Based on online reviews it looked like the GE was a good choice. However, reading the comments here after a search on induction ranges it seems that it is not a favorite or even a second favorite :) I am now wondering how trustworthy the reviews coming from GE are.

What choices would people here make in regard to induction ranges? We are looking for a 30" slide in. No other constraits excepts not in the $7000 range, under $4000 would be good.

Thanks

Look at Bosch. It's a firm fan favorite here for induction and ovens ;-)

So Bosch dishwashers and range. :) Any others that can complete with the bosch ranges?

There are not a lot of bad choices in induction. Mostly good to very good choices. The GE Cafe or Profile induction are very good choices. The Electrolux and Kitchenaid are behind Bosch.

Decide on the features that are important to you, and evaluate with that in mind. 1/2 steps for power is one criteria. As is a linking element for a griddle. Power sharing. Wattage of high burner. All of those.

I have the Samsung Chef Collection slide in induction range with Flex Duo ovens. Like it a lot and use the upper oven all the time.

I'm curious to read the answers! and happy to hear your opinion on GE Cafe Sophie.

I want a slide-in induction range with double ovens, smaller oven on top larger on bottom. The ONLY range that meets those criteria are the GE Cafe. For some reason once you switch to double ovens GE no longer offers the induction cooktop for the Profile.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I will take this list when I head to the appliance store.

I have a GE Profile Induction cooktop. I am pleased with it, and to date have had no problems. My chief complaint is the bridge burner does not heat the area between the burners, making it sort of useless, and the controls are unlit and hard to see. If I had my druthers, I'd go with gas, but this is 1000% better than the electric radiant smoothtop it replaced.

I also have the samsung chef collection slide in induction with flex duo. It's nice because you can use it as one big oven, one small oven, or 2 ovens. I really like it

Thanks jwvideo! I really want a range with no back though... purely aesthetic but it's a non-negotiable for me.

I'm not a big GE fan generally, and I really did not want the sleek, smooth look of the Bosch -- I wanted knobs. I have the LG slide in induction range, and I'm really happy with it. I've been using it about 15 months now.

We have a GE induction range. It has two burners that connect so you can put a big griddle on it. My kids use it daily. It also has a very large burner because we cook for a crowd. My only complaint is that the control panel are in the front and it is always dirty- kids using it daily. I would get the one with the control panel in the back instead if I were to do it again. Also my old cast iron pots were warped so they wouldn’t work. My first choice is gas but this stove gives you immediate temperature control so that is nice.

So looking between the GE café (mostly because of styling) and this kitchenaid https://www.kitchenaid.com/major-appliances/ranges/electric-ranges/electric-slide-in-range/p.30-inch-4-element-induction-slide-in-convection-range-with-baking-drawer.ksib900ess.html . The lower baking drawer seems great but I do like the knobs on the GE. Decision, decisions....

Next up is the dishwasher and refrigerator discussion. :-)

I too wanted a slide-in induction range but I had to have double ovens. The KitchenAid slide-in you linked above uses the AquaLift "self-cleaning" technology which is a total disaster and that was the reason why I ended up going with the free-standing KitchenAid double oven induction range. AquaLLift is an abysmal failure and there's a class-action lawsuit. After living with a continuous cleaning oven for 30 years, I wasn't going to settle for anything but true self-clean technology. I got my range 3 months before the GE Café. I'd rather have function rather than style and aesthetic looks.

    Joanna -

Further on the Kitchenaid slide-in induction range.

    1. You might find these two threads helpful , if you have not already you seen them. There is this long running thread: [https://www.houzz.com/discussions/new-kitchen-aid-induction-range-dsvw-vd~2992220[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/new-kitchen-aid-induction-range-dsvw-vd~2992220)

As that thread started before the stove actually got to buyers, you might want to skip to the second half which has the posts from buyers after receiving and using their stoves.

There is also this thread which was running until earlier this year and focused mainly on the topics of bridging and power cycling at low power settings: [https://www.houzz.com/discussions/two-questions-about-kitchenaid-induction-range-dsvw-vd~4324202 [(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/two-questions-about-kitchenaid-induction-range-dsvw-vd~4324202)

    2. Thank you so much. A lot of reading to do.

I have had the GE Profile induction for almost 3 years and I love it. No problems. I also have the OTR GE Profile convection microwave that I use for a second oven. The exhaust fan isn't the best but the oven/microwave is great.

Ok, decided to go with the GE café. Do people generally like the double oven or the single oven? Is the lower double oven large enough for a turkey? At this stage in life I do a lot of chicken nuggets so the smaller top would be used for cookie sheet type things.

Consumer Reports's top-rated induction range was the GE Profile PHS930SLSS which also gets good anecdotal reviews on GE's website and the Home Depot website.

We are planning to purchase the GE Cafe as well - specifically because it is the only slide in induction range I can find with that oven set up. We have a maytag gemini with the small oven on top and large on the bottom. I love how fast the top oven preheats and it's nice for cooking an easy dinner most nights (I have 4 little kids so plenty of chix nuggets and toaster waffles here too lol). I also love having it when I'm cooking multiple dishes (eg. roasting veggies or potatoes while the main meal is cooking). We host holidays often and I can easily fit a turkey or ham in a large roasting pan in the bottom oven. The GE Cafe looks to be the same size to me (I have seen it in person although I haven't measured).

I have the GE. My only comment would be that I wish the controls were in the back. I’m short and when I reach over the controls, my boobs sometimes change the digital settings of what I might be cooking. Other than that I love it!

    >>>" Is the lower double oven large enough for a turkey"<<<

The double-oven version of the GE Cafe's has a bottom oven is rated at 4.1 cu. ft. That will easily hold most turkeys. For reference, my non-GE stove's 4.2 cu. ft. oven had room to spare with the 25 pound bird we had one Thanksgiving.

I have had my Kenmore induction slide-in for years (10 I think) -- there is very little I dislike about it and wouldn't hesitate to look at Kenmore again.

Throwing in a plug for the LG induction range (slide in)......it's not mentioned a lot, but I love mine.

I love it! It’s my first experience with induction and it’s amazing compared to our old electric range. The double ovens work for us as well. No complaints so far except that it only has one timer. With two ovens it should have two (my old range did). That’s pretty minor though :)
