some species of Rudbeckia and salvia are natives and should do well. winter should provide relief from the temps and rain. I've sometimes germinated seeds in the fridge.

Gerbera daisies are tropical/subtropical plants. They're perennials for me. I don't dare try Aquilegia or Digitalis. but I'm definitely trying reblooming bearded Iris this year. I don't care what anyone says lol

I have seen digitalis grown in northern S FL as a winter annual. As a matter of fact, locally Target used to sell huge bowls of it in the winter, back when they had a garden section.

It needs a mostly shady location, with just an hour or two of full sun.

Somewhere I read that some of the vegetable peppers usually grown as annuals will grow as perennials in the right climate and some are quite attractive.

My salvias Amistad, Phyllis' Fancy, Faye Chapel, Wendy's Wish and coccinea grow extremely well in my 10a garden. All but the Fay Chapel get 6 foot tall and bloom non-stop in full sun. Faye and Wendy like a little shade and get around 3 foot tall.

The common salvia splendens is perennial if shaded in the summer though it doesn't look all that great in the heat. Digiplexis sounds promising as an alternative for digitalis.

Aqueligias dont like our weather. I have started them from seed for the past 4 springs. They sprout great, grow great and ehen the summer heat starts they die. In partial or full shade. I hoped to have a few live to the next spring so I could have flowers ( Im sure you know the're biannuals) but not.

Cosmos and zinnias do very well for me.
