How does alleopathy work exactly?

I am fighting infestations of ailanthus trees and Japanese stilt grass, both of which are regarded as alleopathic. I would like to understand what part of these plants contains the growth inhibitor so I am not sabotaging my efforts (and reasons) for eradicating them. The ailanthus I either pull or cut and paint the trunk with roundup, then hurl into the brush pile. The stilt grass I either pull or cut short and leave in place. My thinking is I need to focus on eliminating the seed production over huge swaths while I wait for my replacement ground covers to fill in (ferns, pachysandra, geranimum macrorhizum, sweet woodruff, etc.). Is the stilt grass performing a mulch or compost function in this case, or contaminating the soil with the alleopathic chemical? Also, when it seems that the stilt grass has beaten me and formed seed heads already, I try to throw it into a pile where they will have less chance of maturing and germinating. I should add that both of these plants are ubiquitous in my area. The stilt grass blankets the roadsides and woods (great nesting and camouflage for the deer, who nestle like the porcelain in the samples in which it was introduced!) so I'm not sure how effective any local eradication can be. I have concentrated on clearing what I eventually plant, but maybe should only spend energy clearing what I can immediately plant? Do their seeds tend to drop or ride the wind? Please add your knowledge about these plants and advise me of the most effective strategy. Thank you.
