Magnolia tree?

I’ve been advised not to plant magnolia trees near any slab, even house foundation. What precautions have you taken to avoid roots from lifting the slab. I have two containers of magnolia trees and am thinking of not planting to avoid future costly slab fixes. Thanks, look forward to feedback.
