The quality of the painting and pinstriping on the millwork is top notch, but the room as a whole is just ugly. The adjoining room does not look much better.

My first thought was, "What is wrong with those chairs??!!!" Liberace did cross my mind...

Once I enlarged the photo and got a better look at the chairs, they look to be finely crafted and are probably quite pretty in isolation. As a full set in that room, they just come off as tacky.

Haha as usual I love it!!! Not so sure about the mirrors or the mini chandeliers, though. But the chairs are fantastic, the table and the sideboard have great lines, love the color and holy crap the view into the other room with the faux tortoiseshell trim!!!!!

That looks a lot better, but if the real estate photo vs. the (I am assuming Arch. Digest/magazine photo) is what the rooms looks like day to day it's not very pleasant somehow in natural daylight.

I realize some rooms are meant to look good under certain conditions, and the DR does look better lit as above. (I am still not a fan of certain element together here).

Isn't it odd how some things instantly remind you of something totally unrelated? When I first saw this, I immediately thought of the tiny Isambard Pub at Paddington Station. Strange how our minds connect images. (Or maybe it's just mine.)

Even with better lighting the room is not welcoming, which a dining room certainly should be. It still has a cold and impersonal aura. Too much shine and glitz to everything.

I wrote a post but inadvertently deleted it, but there's nothing wrong with anything in the room by itself, except the rug which looks awfully cheap in the room.

The sum total is just off somehow. I think it is really the photography that doesn'twork. If there were some artwork in that room rather than The Marx Bros, it would add life to the room.

There are too many discordant elements -- the lacquered walls and ceiling, mirrors, multiple chandeliers, chairs, photographs, table and console -- all together in that room for me, and each element wants to be the star.

Wow! It looks stunning, I love the lighting and table. We all know that kitchen and dining room are the heart of a home.

I have held my tongue while I searched for some positive thing to say, to no avail! I like the chairs, but this many is probably too many in one place aside from a showroom. I like color, but not this. I like lacquer, but not here. I am not into glamour, but I can appreciate it, but not here. Oh well, Hillfiger made a fortune on the preppy look and he is clearly tired of it.
