What you have works. The short wall on the left as you enter the front door -- between entry and dining room -- define the area as two distinctly different spaces.

If you're looking for a change, you might consider choosing two different lights - one that hanges lower than the ceiling for the dining room and another that hugs the ceiling for the entry -- but that have metal and glass colors in common.

So my question becomes what kind of centerpiece....subtle or something that makes a bit more of a statement? The room is fairly tranquil so I don't mind a slight punch if it is needed. Otherwise, I leaning towards a slim drum or linear fixture. I was thinking a globe one may appear odd.

The table is dark....so I was thinking a lighter fixture. Thoughts?

A silver fixture would not be my recommendation. IMO you need a fixture that balances that huge dining table and a silver fixture will make no statement in the room. This is the only globe fixture I recommend. I have seen it in person and it's stunning and artistic. Looks very handmade in appearance and finish.

I guess that is my issue. I'm sure it is a very stunning piece, but unfortunately I am not drawn to handmade or vintage-looking pieces. Do you believe a mix of finishes could work?

You have a very heavy and dark space. With the color chairs and the painting, it seems you do need a chandelier that can handle what is already there. It also doesn't seem you need two light fixtures, one should work. We actually think Beverly's idea works great.

Hmm...I can't explain it, but the ample window light and light colored paint helps the space not appear as heavy in person. I guess my question is this....you posted a metallic fixture and Beverly posted a dark one. I'm not sure what finish to select. Anything chandelier or small crystal-like is out?
