Basement Bathroom - Ideas Needed

last modified: 8 years ago

I am looking for advice / suggestions on how to make this bathroom look better without spending significant costs. Any ideas? Any color suggestions?

It's a small space and we are not planning to change the layout.

A few ideas that are cheap:

    paint the walls

change out light fixture and towel holders to match and be more modern

    swap out faucet

The vanity looks to be in good condition but you could easily paint it

    Change the mirror

The shower door looks nice and clean. I'm guessing this bathroom is new are not used often. It could be left as is, but if you wanted you could put up a tension rod and shower curtain for decoration. Might not be worth it if it will be used more often.

You could also remove the door covering the storage area and put some pretty fluffy towels there. It really depends on how the room will be used.

Splashy wallpaper. Change the towel bars so their finishes all match.

The mirror is extremely high for anyone under six feet tall.

Can you post some pics of you ideal bathroom, even if it has nothing to do with your budget or bathroom size. That way we could give you some ideas on how to achieve the look you want.

I see chrome/polished shower trim, faucet, left wall towel rail and toilet paper holder...mirrored or gold light fixture, gold towel rail on right wall...oil rubbed cabinet hardware...white cabinet/cupboard knob...wicker door panels...two different finishes of wood on the cabinets...a cream or almond vanity top...and a white toilet. Very busy.

Since the shower surround is the biggest point, switching the other trim items to chrome or polished (whichever it is) is the winning move. Can't see the floor, but honestly the thing limiting the color of the walls is the vanity/top and floor, perhaps a replacement vanity in the same footprint could be sourced from a resale shop or a box store. Then change the fixtures to match and go with a new chrome light fixture.

If a new cabinet, perhaps white to allow some color on the walls without shrinking the room? That depends on the flooring...as does the ability to replace the vanity. If you can get to a nice white vanity (with a white top with some character markings, especially if they compliment your planned wall color) to go with the trim and cupboard, chrome trim and fixtures, you allow a lot more freedom with color and/or design (wallpaper).

It looks like changing the mirror, updating the lighting, hardware, faucet, painting, and painting the vanity would give you a good update. If you want to make a dramatic change try adding wallpaper though. Here are some of our designs that might just inspire you.
