I was so distracted by the plywood and messy furniture that I didn't notice the torso until I started reading the comments.

Such bland furniture and then "that" -- and the dusty pieces that seem like they came in from the attic.

I like the windows but what is going on under them? Is the radiator hidden there?

I believe they are trying to distract from the condition of the floor in the lower left side of the photo. I have no idea what that large piece of cardboard is hiding, however, but it has to be something!

The torso appears to have a tan line from wearing a bra or a one-piece.

I'm assuming that the rest of the house is empty and this stuff is for the Wedumpjunk truck.

It's a shame how the wood floor got lightened up after using bleach to get rid of the blood stain. You can still see the body outline though. The head was near the side table leg : )

I agree “Why”? In spite of the damaged flooring, it could have been staged nicely/nicer. The windows are nice, pretty paint color, decent architectural details (built in, pretty stairs, the arch). Some of you talented folks in here could have done wonders with that room!

I think something happenned to that family..maybe leaving in haste and all..or their estate takes care of things, doesn't give much of a damn for whatever reasons..maybe they're overseas for all I know..ask somebody else to take care of stuff

if I was an agent..or a photographer..or a friend in charge..well at least I'd move that torso behind something..if it's too heavy to handle..

What is going on under the windows is a hot water/steam radiator. Some parts of the country still use those in individual homes although you are more likely to see them now in older apartment buildings. That reminds me of the time when my brother-in-law just got married and we went to visit him and his new wife at a house on the ranch that her father managed. The house was not lived in daily but used off-and-on by persons who had business at the (very large) ranch. Our new sister-in-law told us that at one point the house was used as a site for making porno flicks. The master bedroom was that exact shade of pale blue - a color that she assured us was one used commonly in porno flicks because of its ability to reflect light. !!!! Uh, ok.

Now, nearly 40 years later, they are still happily married. Obviously, we had our doubts at the time.

I used to rent items to a set designer, and at one time she asked me for furnishings to make a room look like a bordello. Fortunately, I had some things she could use.

Why would a Realtor agree to photograph a house when it looks like that? I think that often when I see some messy listing photos. What gives??? At least put a tarp over things? Is this house FSBO? Link?

Realtors do stuff like that all the time. Not good realtors, I hasten to add. But I've seen photos with people in bed with the covers up over themselves, pretending they're not there, and even goofier things.

For instance, I wondered why any realtor would choose this for the first pic (and hence the thumbnail on all the aggregating sites like estately, trulia, etc.):

until I clicked to the next image and saw this:

I can only assume that they think the market is so hot it just doesn't matter.

From other times I've come across unusual listing pics and have posted, people say it could be a rental where agent can't touch/move anything, and the renter doesn't give a darn.

Sorry, but i didn't think to save that one. I mostly only save photos of interesting architectural details, ideas that I might want to steal if I buy another home in the neighborhood (mostly very small houses and it's interesting to see how people cope), or things to remind me why we didn't make an offer on a house that looks incredibly charming from the outside. I have some intreresting scary photos, if you'd like. :)

lol writersblock. I've shown houses where we walked into a bedroom and someone was under the covers! You have never seen people (us) get out of a room and a house so fast. BTW, this is with a scheduled and approved appointment to show. Not a surprise to the occupants, just a surprise for us.

The listing shows even more statuary. I'm glad they stopped "renovating" after they coated the entire kitchen in battleship-gray.

More pictures from the same house. At $124 price/sqft, it seems awfully inexpensive, but then all the floors do need to be refinished. It looks like they are salvageable, however. A lot of the rooms are empty, and so it looks like they are in the middle of moving out and just have not completed the move. I found the shoes in the middle of the room rather puzzling.

Lars - thanks for showing the rest of the home - I used to live in NE Philly and I know where that is located. There are a lot of puzzling things happening n Philly - this one is my favorite - an above ground pool in the front yard.

If I had to use that kitchen as dark and dreary as it is I would be eating out or from boxes before I would do more than rinse a dish. Although gray is currently the hot color that is just depressing.
