Oil oranges with age. Water is always better. And Bona is top notch.

Bona is SOOO much better. Bona is a COMMERCIAL grade product. The ability to get into your home within a few DAYS after the floor has been refinished is another MASSIVE benefit.

Oil based products (and to be clear the Last & Last absco 450 voc is illegal in 11 states that are CARB II compliant) have a long and glorious history of STRONG odours that can take 4 - 24 weeks to dissipate (that's in the summer when doors can be left open 24/7). For people who are chemically sensitive (ahem... get headaches when people wear too much perfume...) this odour is HORRIBLE to live through. Some highly sensitive people will have nose bleeds, nausea or develop a heavy cough (together with migraines causing them to be bed ridden for days at a time) which only goes away when the odour disappears completely.

If you or anyone in your family has any form of chemical sensitivity, migraines, asthma, COPD, etc, you will want to stay FAAAAAAAR away from oil.

Low VOC oil base is trash finish. A "good" quality oil base will be 500 or higher.

It seems that the only reason to stay away from oil is because of the odor - but I have read so much about how it might be a stronger and more long lasting finish - especially for parquet floors with a dog. Your feedback, again, is much appreciated. My husband claims I suffer from analysis paralysis --- he is right!

The high-end finishes (like Bona Traffic HD and Loba 2K Supra AT) have EXTREME wear characteristics. Why? Because they are deemed to be commercial grade...which means if they can put up with THOUSANDS of teenagers using the gym floor every WEEK, they are good enough for residential use/durability.

Loba 2K Supra AT is super tough. It's scratch resistance is AMAZING. It could be argued it is a step above Bona Traffic HD for the scratch resistance. I would not hesitate to use either one on a residential, light commercial or heavy commercial floor. No problem whatsoever.
