Thanks Lizzie. Yes it seemd like everything that can fail has done so in the past few months. Than I'm dealing with something personal that's...well its not good. Eventually I'll talk about it.

I tried the dryer a few more times...it does get warm not hot for awhile than its back to just cold air....too bad it didn't happen a few weeks ago when it was still within its 3 year warranty. Yack.

Do you think the vent needs cleaned out? It could be clogged with lint causing the dryer to trip the high limit.

MiMi I'm cleaning it tomorrow but it was done about three weeks ago after the glitter mishap.

I don't have any hands-on with SQ and very little with gas .... but what it's exhibiting can be bad solenoid(s) on the valve for the gas burner .... heats briefly then the solenoids fail after initially activated. Reasonably simple fix to replace them per my understanding.

Can also be a bad gas igniter but the burner generally won't work at all in that case.

BE CAREFUL dealing with gas ... call a servicer if none of you feel up to it.

So sorry to hear this. Maybe a call to the dealer were it was bought is a good thing just because it is so close to when the warranty went out.

I took the front bottom cover off....turned it on..I got a nice red glow and it flamed. ..for about 2&1/2 minutes than flame went out...I continued watching. ..sbout every 30 to 60 seconds it glowed than went out with no flame...it did thid this 4 times than it flamed again and stayed flaming 4 minutes and stopped again.... ..I than shut the dryer down.

Glow is the igniter so that's apparently good. Flame failure has characteristics of bad gas valve solenoids. There are two, primary and backup/safety. Parts diagram has part numbers for each valve and also the entire valve with solenoids is available as an assembly. The solenoids are easier to change (doesn't involve disturbing the gas line) than the assembly as a whole (gas line must be disconnected/reconnected). Probably only one solenoid is bad but they're often changed together.

When it glowed, then lit the flame, did the glow bar go out or appear to stay hot? Could be the thermo-couple that detects whether the burner is lit is failing. Might explain the four minute lockout before it allows another attempt. Just guessing. There may be some documentation in the console to help with diagnosis.

Yeah, when it rains it pours...UGH! My cousin/bff had a bunch of things happening all at once...the latest thing...had to replace entire heating and cooling system in house to the tune of EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS!

Hopefully yours in a simple fix that your son can manage! Sounds like it should be. My neighbor just had to change that gas valve solenoid on his and said he had to buy the part on ebay because the local shop was like $50 for the part but on ebay he could buy it for about $8.00...GAH! I think it was pretty simple...he's handy but not THAT handy...HAHA!

By any chance, did this start right after the delivery of your new washer?

Could the delivery people have moved the dryer to where it is pinching off the exhaust hose?

Quite inexpensive. Very easy to replace.

No exhaust hose wasn't pinched. Yesterday I pulled the dryer out rechecking exhaust hose for a clog. Everything was clean.

I took front bottom cover off and watched again...it glowed than fired up...the glow bar faded out after it flamed.

My son took both solenoids out, put them on the counter and tested continuity...both tested ok.

That's as far as we got. Lol. But my som is ultra careful never doing this before so he reads reads reads.

I need to check on service repair costs.

Did you look inside the drum to make sure there wasn't something stuck to the exhaust holes? Just a thought.

Mamapinky, I watched a video on replacing the solenoid coils in a gas dryer...they checked the coils for continuity and then tested for resistance, too, if that is any help...

I nosed around on replacing the entire gas valve with the coils for a Speed Queen...$250 from the on-line parts stores but found it for about half that price on eBay. (New part).

Note of caution when you shop eBay for appliance parts...make sure that you're getting a new part vs a used part. At least for parts that matter like electrical and mechanical. I don't mind used for things like, say lint screens or knobs, but always opt for new parts on other stuff.

It's possible for a solenoid to test good initially, then break-down when energized/operated.

Dadoes. .I retested continuity on solenoids...one tested fine other I got nothing. Theres an appliance parts store 25 minutes from me...I called and they say they have both solenoids in stock for 23 $....I'm trying to get up there tomorrow so cross your fingers

We had the same issue with our SQ dryer. The flame would not come on but the glow plug would or maybe it would come on. We cleaned the vent but it didn't help. We were getting ready for vacation and it started working again just long enough to get the laundry done. I diagnosed it online and the parts guy thought it was the solenoid. The part was $13 so we got it but decided to wait until we got back because I was still doing laundry. It was easy to change. My husband did it but I could have done it. It was just like this. It's been going ever since.

Wekick. Thanks. Yes I will be changing the solenoids myself. I didn't get them Friday as hubs worked overtime and they were closed Saturday. Hopefully tomorrow.

My propane came this morning and for the first time in many weeks I'm drying clothes in my own dryer which is working great (knockes on wood).

I cried real tears when I heard the fuel truck in my driveway. LOL.

Aww MamaP. Great news and kudos to you going without a dryer for so long. I've had to do that always for 6 week stretches and in the winter one runs out of places to hang things to dry indoors--at least at my house. It would drive me to madness. I'm sure it was a balancing act for you and yours. I hope your propane tank stays full for a long time and your dryer is a good sport indefinitely now. I'm disappointed a SQ dryer had a malfunction so soon. They are not economy priced machines.

Three weeks to get your gas supply? Now that you have it, can you find a supplier that will be more immediate? It sounds like it is going to be harsh winter and I would hate to think of you running low again and having to rely on that one supplier.
