Many Aeoniums grow air roots - some more than others -, often as stems get longer. Some get to grow into soil and anchor plant. I don't think in case of Aeoniums it is because of humidity. Their real roots are usually not very thick/strong considering size of plants.

Thanks for your post, Rina. What you say agrees with many of the pages I read tonight on Aeoniums aerial roots. BTW, I edited my original post to add a photo of the whole plant.

When I brought this my plant home, about this time last year, I put it in a larger pot which I placed by a window. The plant thrived in that location but the weather heated up quite a bit in the last week of June and was absolutely unbearable during July and, because of the window, the plant was getting even more heat from the glass so I moved it to its current location, by the fence where it's rather breezy.

I have been watering this plant regularly and it looks very healthy so, yes, it makes a lot of sense that the plant would try to anchor itself given that it's top heavy and in a breezy location.
