What is the material for the fireplace surround/facing

I'm a property investor and am interested in converting a traditional fireplace to a more modern urban looking fireplace, Interested in price point, materials, possibly changing traditional to gas burning, changing current box to elongated as in this photo. Please advise when I can meet with you.
