Need ideas on our new 1970 lakehouse

Trying to decide if I should paint the built in or just take off wallpaper & paint....the whole house has popcorn ceiling & I don't have time to remove... Please help need ideas!!

Me! I despise popcorn ceilings! Lol! My husband and I removed them from our 2600 sqft home and it was a ton of work (many were painted over), but well worth it in the end. I would only undertake that for your lake house if you are planning a full remodel, not just a painting and touch up project. It was really a giant mess that can come with asbestos issues if your home is old enough.
Otherwise I think take that paper down and paint the paneling and redo the floors with something updated, but I like the built in as is. It keeps the house grounded in someway to its era. I love to see when owners keep a few pieces of the home's history. Also, it isn't ugly in my opinion. The wallpaper on the other hand.....

After living with a Lake House for 13 years I can say only do what needs immediate attention at first. Ie: wallpaper. Live with the rest and see how you use the place before making other decisions. Ie: painting cabinet. To me the wood has character! Fill with bright dishes, games, fishing lures........with walls painted it will be quite a statement piece. Good Luck and ENJOY your new place!

You'll probably want to paint the paneling also.

I would remove wallpaper, paint panelling and built-ins white, then paint upper walls a soft, light color which complements floor and furniture colors. Ignore popcorn ceilings - who exactly decided they were ugly anyway??

I would remove the wallpaper and the doors to the built-in. Have your carpenter extend the built-in to the ceiling, then paint the built-in and paneling light grey and the walls white. Or walls grey and paneling and built-in white.

OH MY GOSH!! keep that built in. it's beautiful!! i would hit the floors first. depending on that wainscoting, maybe you could paint it white (i can't tell in photos the condition)..... the wallpaper could be kitchy and charming... :) good luck! what a fun project! do you watch beach flip? fun ideas on TV to see. :)
