My first 6 weeks with Gorenje

I'm pretty sure Gorenje appliances aren't available in the US yet, and they're pretty new in Canada, so I thought I'd post some early results with my new stacked washer/dryer from Gorenje (Gorenje has been making appliances in Europe for over 60 years). I chose this pair for a couple of reasons: 1) I wanted a compact 24" set that had a vented dryer, and 2) I wanted to avoid US manufacturers. That left Gorenje or Miele, and Miele was out of my budget.

I love the washer - my clothes are coming out terrifically, it's using far less soap than my old washer (LG front load), far less that the proportional decrease in size would have indicated. I have good control over my choices of temperature and spin speed, and it's got other features that I like (timed start, extra rinse). The dryer, though, is a bit of a puzzler......it has a lot of pre-programmed settings and I don't really know what they're doing (with respect to time, speed, or temperature). Nowhere can I find the actual specifics of each program, only what they recommend the program get used for. Very weird, but I've figured out what generally works for me. But I wish I knew so could have more control over my options. Sometimes it doesn't get things quite dry, but I can toss them in for a little bit more - I'd rather have that than have things overdried from dryers running too hot or too long. One of the things I do like is that after it's finished, if you don't come get your clothes right away, it tosses them back and forth for a bit (clockwise for 10 minutes or so, then counter clockwise for 10 minutes or so, then off for 30 minutes or so), which kind of keeps them fluffed up a bit (yes, I watched it to see what would happen).

So....so far their doing their job well and I'm happy with the results. Time will tell about their quality of build and longevity.

Hi Toronto Veterinarian. I haven't checked in with you in a while. How are you liking the Gorenje set?

Still very happy. My only issue is drying sheets in the dryer -- they seem to get all rolled up and the inner part isn't dry; that means I have to dry them in very small loads, which is a bit of a pain. But, in a single-bed household, it add more hassle than time. I've tried adding dryer balls, but they don't help.

Other than that, they're doing the job well; all the doors/dials/buttons are still solid, the lint catcher is still easy to clean and fit, and my clothes are clean. I'm amazed at how they use so much less detergent -- I'm still using my leftover Tide liquid (which I dilute before adding, as per the instructions) but I use less than a tablespoon per load! It's no surprise, then, that I'm still using the stuff I had left from last September!

New Asko dryers have the same exact issue

Interestng, Vicky. I don't have that issue w/ my Asko Logic dryer at all. I use the "bedding" option which I think reverses direction more often. I have king bedding and don't have to split up dryer loads like Toronto Veterinarian mentions.

do you have the w4114 washer? do you like it?

I do have the washer, and I do like it. It took me a few months to figure out which cycles worked best for me along with best detergents, dosing, etc. I have the white set and got them with a $400 rebate. If that hadn’t been offered I would have gone with Miele’s options instead, although I liked being able to have a vented dryer since the house was set up for that.

Do you ever use the quickwash option? my 4114 had a programming defect where it did not draw detergent on that cycle bad control boards on a whole batch

Do you mean water wasn’t flushed through the detergent drawer? If so, I haven’t experienced that on any of the cycles. I will double check on a quickwash specifically (which I do use occasionally.) Am I remembering correctly that you had this set and then returned last year?

HI Toronto Veterinarian. I hope you've been well. I'd love to hear how the Gorenje set have held up over the past year.

I’m also curious as considering buying a Gorenje set. Any feedback would be appreciated!

I was off the forums for a while........My washer and dryer are still working really well, and I'm still happy with them. I've had no problems at all with either, and I have nothing but good things to say about them.

Can anyone give feedback on the new gorenge washer and ventless heat pump dryer vs Miele? Thanks!
