Help! Staircase carpet!

Have to replace old staircase carpet, the only carpet we like is this navy/gold damask pattern (Lake Como). Calling on experts to advise if this would look too busy on the staircase. Any input is appreciated!

No please. Not just due to pattern. It is polypropylene fiber, it will hold DUST and grime like a damn magnet. Trust me on that. Don't touch it.

Find a nice small geometric pattern in a neutral, that will not render all else in your home obsolete. Look for a good nylon or wool. Small repeat.

The choice looks very nice, and I agree with the previous comment, everything else would have to tie into this now. you dont want to do something like laminate or hardwood?

It’s a very strong color and pattern next to what you have at the bottom of the stairs.It would be nice if the colors were complementary. Have you considered other colors in the same pattern, I’m sure Lake Como has other colors.

It's a very expected pattern and color, nothing special, and doesn't go well with anything in your living room. I like the choices that Beverly posted.

It is beautiful, but because your furnishings are mostly white or light, that carpet on the stairs would become the dominant feature in the whole space. A lighter patterned carpet would work much better (and be better than white carpeted stairs which get dirty too quickly).

I like the blue patterned rug that Jan showed you. It would go with the blue in your living room.
