Right now we've three bathrooms in the house, no sidesplashes

(it's not like if I had one that already was there-I'd rip it out. Not a big deal..)

No constant water.

But if there's water I just wipe it right away. rarely it ends up on the wall. Backsplash-yes, more chances for it to end up there. Sides..once in a blue moon. Usually happens when I water a plant..I have a plant in the hall bath. In a funny vessel attached to the wall. Needs a drip of water, as it's succulent..I'm just a bit clumsy sometimes.

Obviously, living close to half of my life with free standing and free hanging whatever plumbing fixtures, no vanities, no tiles,no backsplashes or sidesplashes, (public restrooms did have tiles ..or so I think..don't recall vanities...) influenced me..I probably still look at it as extra, to a degree, and if something is extra-I might as well have it aesthetically nice-to me- if it doesn't interfere with function

But my experience is only mine..what do I know. As our GC said, "when two by fours were two by fours"..seeing recently the house gutted and new drywall put in..maybe it's indeed my good housekeeping that keeps them walls from being chewy, lol

Thank you Jan. We are using the Kohler Archer sink and it will be centered in a 24 inch vanity. on each side with a 12 inch drawer bank in the middle. So, if my math is correct, there will be 3.2 inches on the side of undercount sink near the wall.

I think it would look nice to leave it plain.

I did a vanity with no side splash in my teen kids' bathroom because I don't like the asymmetric look -- they are not at all careful with it, and it's fine five years later.
