    Great suggestions above from Beth.

Since your porch is a bit dark, I'd paint the door either light or bold color.

I'd also suggest painting that wackadoo gutter in a color to blend in with your brick. :)

No blue on a Craftsman, please.
From THE SW list for Arts and Craft style homes, consider RAYCROFT Suede SW 2842
for the door. That and a beige tone porch and steps will create a classic look and make some of the bricks ‘pop’.

Me again, this is very primitive, but perhaps
it will serve as food for thought. OH ! As previously suggested, paint out that downspout!
You will get more kids at Halloween.....it is scary!!

Ooops. Thanks for reminding me about keeping Craftsman paint subtle. Retracting my recommendation of a blue door.

I would use a shade of green.

I would recommend replacing that wacky downspout with a beautiful rain chain. it would look amazing and cure that visual blight. I always love a dark green glossy paint door, that kind of green that is almost black.

Thank you everyone! We will def paint the rain gutter and we were planning on repainting the patio. Great suggestion to paint it same as trim. What do y’all think about a grey door? Since the advice was to paint the patio then grey probably not a good color, right? Only asking bc a local designer suggested the color. We can’t stain it as it’s veneer and the stain didn’t take well. Stain was the original plan

She specifically suggested elephant ear from SW

I think that would work. Do you know what color was used on the shingles in the gable?

    This is more my style.

I think the door could be nice in white too.

The trim and the shingles are bungalow beige

redpainter,,,i'm sorry she suggested that color gray. see how 'blue' and cool it looks next to your brick and the warmer beige color on the gable? it fights w/the house colors. You can get a color that matches (maybe the bungalow beige?) and paint over that gray. if you really want gray, then pick a very warm gray. a griege.

I would not paint the door gray. did you look at all of the colors I posted, above? the arts/crafts historical colors? pick one of those. Or, just sand and stain the door and leave it natural wood. (use a spar varnish after staining to protect the wood).

I would NOT do a light blue door of any kind on your door. it does not work w/your house. (unless you want to paint all of your brick a different color)

Redpainter, to be clear, when you say patio do you mean the porch area in front of the door?

My only concern about Elephant Ear is that the Bungalow Beige trim around the door could look pinkish next to it. It is under the roof so maybe that will not happen. I get the feeling you want a conservative choice. SW is on sale now so you could buy some samples and paint some foam core then prop it against the house. The door will need primer so you have some more time to think it over.

I made two images with the visualizer. The first has Elephant Ear for your door.

I see a faint green in it which I like. Then I got to wonder what it would be like with Bungalow Beige on the door.

I like it much more than I expected.

I'm not sure I understand why a craftsman house has to have a dull color? True, when first built a craftsman is likely to have had a murky colored door, but this is the 21st century, and traditionally successive generations of homeowners have added their personal touches. Yep to bright! Authenticity be darned!

I like the reds above, especially the last, because it pops, but I say buttercup yellow!

PS That downspout is awesome! It's one of a kind. I say keep it. Parade it. Enhance it. Feature it on your blog. Call attention to it.
