I like the idea, I believe that Houzz has a plant trading forum and we could become part of that.

Hi Rob, I'm new to Houzz so I wasn't really sure how to "join" or "post" in a group, so I just tagged my post appropriately. Is there a way to actually join or post in a group though?

Not sure the Exchange Forum still exists or is active; this site's undergone considerable changes recently.

But something to consider is the weather & the changing seasons; going into Fall / Winter.

Here in NYC it's been pretty warm, but today the temp's at 45; it's the first day I feel heat off the radiator. It may soon be too cold to ship from here.

Rob I wanted to mention that to you too, tho' given Rhipsalis will be a bare branch, somewhat insulated by bubble plastic. I PM messaged you, awaiting your response & thx for responding.

You may still be able to do it here Hannah. Pls. wait & allow some time for folks to answer. Also, pls. state where in the country you are (broadly). For instance if you're in FLA or Calif, approaching cold isn't an issue.

I don't happen to use trading sites. I have belonged to local plant societies for yrs. & I get plants thru them & sometime from friends here (like recently w/ Rob, a new swap friend here).

Hey Karen, so I'm in KS. There's not a ton of people here who are interested in succulents, so I try to trade online haha. I haven't thought about weather when considering trading.

As for California and several other states with a lot of agriculture, it's illegal to send in plants unless you have a license, which involves inspection. Invasive pests are spreading by people unknowingly bringing them in on plants, firewood, pallets, etc.

Hannah, if you don't get enough response here, there is a trade thread on Reddit. I haven't been there in a while, and I haven't done it myself, but it seems to be a good place to do that. Not to discourage you from trading here.

Guess what? I checked & found that the Cactus & Succulent Society of America has a branch in Kansas City, MO. I don't have a link, but look 'em up, maybe they can recommend C&S Nurseries in your area.

I have three Senecio serpens (Blue Chalk Sticks) I want to get rid of (I know they grow like weeds in some areas). I also have other leaves and some cuttings. Two problems are: The shipping is rather expensive because it's not the usual small box, unless I chop them. And there isn't much I want in trade. I like the more expensive window Haworthias, seeds of some things, and some smaller unusual cactus, but I'm pretty picky. Some others on my wish list:

Aloinopsis setifera (luckhoffii) and schoonessii

Agave isthmensis

Sulcorebutia rauschii

I actually want all the same stuff you do haha, I also have to get rid of some blue chalk sticks, so I don't think I'd have what you want. For window haworthias I have some rooted window haworthia babies: star window haworthia, haworthia pygmaea, haworthia cooperi (the ones with the short "whiskers" on the end) if you were interested in any of those. I wouldn't mind some cuttings (besides the blue chalk sticks haha)

That's often how it goes. Is this what you mean by star window? This is one of my retusa types. Still don't have an exact ID.

I already have a pygmea and cooperi isn't on my list. Dang.

I have a retusa as well, but it's pink, and mine's been super slow growing roots. Have you experienced that w/ yours?

That's a venosa of some sort. Change in naming has me all confused as to the exact ID. I already have one of those. My retusa Muticas have great roots in gritty mix, but I do have one that lost is roots and they refuse to grow back. It's still alive though. They didn't grow anything like they do now when I used soil and perlite.

That is the always handsome haworthia venosa tessellata. An early love of mine; I'm a fan of pattern & texture & this was one of my very first succulents. If this is your plant, it looks nicely grown. Wish I had something to trade you for some!

This is my favorite offset with pink and orange.

Very nice, that's more the coloring & particular pattern I recall having. To me, this pic answers the question 'Why Grow Succulents?" Just fabulous to look at.

Gotta say Jeff, that retusa pic above was pretty beautiful too.

I'm not too picky on type but I'm partial to variegated/monstrose/crested cacti and am looking to try and grow some trichocereus seedlings for grafting!
