Area Rug Help needed.

I did not think shopping for an area rug would be so difficult.

Here is my small condo. I am looking for a area rug that will not be fussy but tie everything together under $1000.00 in Canada. I've looked through hundreds and purchased two but returned them. I have a small dog and a visiting dog who at times has piddled on the floor, so I need something I can clean easily. also I am wondering what size I should get. I was thinking 8x10 but then we have the patio door that is opened often for the dog to go out and is a traffic area. Any suggestions are helpful. I like lots texture and I'm not a fan for prints. There is a rug that I though was industrial looking but my sis says it's too traditional. Now I'm thinking it is too traditional.

Also is my layout ok?

I would switch the position of the 2 chairs and lower the TV. In a small room the TV looks awkward hung so high

Hello Faith, Your rug should be big enough for at least the furniture legs to sit on it. Your walls are white and your furniture is black, so maybe a rug with a subtle pattern that pulls in those two colors, plus maybe another color or two to brighten up the room. Have fun!

This is the right time to introduce some color into your room. No more black.

Rug should be big enough that legs are sitting on the rug about 8 inches.

TV too high. Please, no more black anything.

I agree with the necessity for more color in the room. Is the room bright? Would you consider a modern looking carpet? You'd like a synthetic like polypropylene, correct, so you can shampoo it right up?

It doesn't sound like you want a busy oriental.... a contemporary design, maybe? Something "industrial" to play off the large railroad station clock?

If you're okay with doing color, one way to address the colored and non-traditional and pee-compatible is to get....... a rug in the yellow range....

That brown and black "aztec" above would work with piddle-pooches, too, but maybe along those lines a brighter "kilim" with colors, not neutrals?

thanks for all the responses. I get lots of light in this room, lots of windows and skylights int he hallway. The ceiling is actually quite tall in the living room, hard to tell in the picture as it's taken from the opening in the kitchen. The couch and love seat are black leather but the stressless chair is chocolate browned the tables and shelving are deep brown. The clock is brown distressed as well and mirrored. So the only black is the couch and chair. The dinning room table is charchol brown and the chairs are grey leather. The wall color is called "calm", the trim and kitchen are white and the fixtures/handles are all oil bronze including the lights. the handles on the cabinets are chrome. I love two of the carpets and will look them up especially the cappella and the one from horchow. Thanks again.
