Ok everyone I have one room my husband finally let me decorate. Minimal budget and minimal time. You will see photos below. The paint unfortunate is very high gloss and would need too much to change. The place is colonial style so I would like to keep it older looking rather than modern. Problem I have is the bedside (built in and can’t be removed without replacing the carpet and headboard which also can be replaced as it hides a wall join. And also the built in robe. It’s ugly and eighties. Want to paint but my colour scheme that I have to work with is a beige colour which I think looks salmon pink especially up against the dark brown feature wAll(also high gloss paint we will never get off!!!). Any ideas please please please. By the way the last time I posted here I got that many fantastic ideas for the bathroom that worked a treat. Thank you

I would recommend hanging your new paintings at the same height. Small change...

first choose gorgeous new bedlinen or a big artwork for the wall and then match the decoration to that...if you don't want to change paint, furniture and carpet then choose art and bedlinen coloured beige and brown to match the existing colours with pink, green or blue pattern and add a few decoartive bed pillows to balance the low bed and maybe a plain soft rug over the carpet...with more money you might consider having an electrician replace the wall lamps with some better positioned over the bedside tables instead of in the centre

I would paint the wardrobe Maybe in Annie Sloan Chalk paint New lights especially the white wall sconces Paint bedside table same as wardrobe Art work above beds

I agree with oklouise’s ideas, I don’t mind that wall colour, add a striking artwork, gorgeous bed linen, a textured rug, a comfy chair and change lights if possible, could look great without breaking the budget.

Agree with ok and Julie's suggestions. At the moment you have a wonderful 80's motel look. If you can't paint anything, then at least change the handles on furniture to a more 2018 version of the colonial look your wanting. New bedside tables. New lighting/bedside lamps. Is it a motel?

Hi guys. For all these years I have despised that coloured feature wall but your ideas breath new life. Thank you. Also yes it is a motel. Very very eighties but catering for mostly seniors so we don’t have many complaints. I virtually get banned from the rooms since I spend hours re grouting tiles or scrubbing my heart out. We ha ve spent a lot of time cleaning it up as it was bankrupt and unloved when we bought it so a lot of money has gone into just fixing up what we have and regaining customers. We have won several awards for customer service and would love dearly to do all the rooms up just very limited to time and budget. One other question I have is in regards to the wardrobe and bedsides re updating knobs. Any ideas would be much appreciated. I am very handy but don’t have a fashionable or Color sense bone in my body!!

Well done with your ongoing love and dedication to your 'project'.
Regarding the door/side table knobs. Black door knobs would look good against contemporary/colonial bedding. There are plenty to choose from at Bunnings. But, my favourite are ceramic door knobs you can find online/gift shops or markets. All the best.

Would love to see a photo taken of the wardrobe wall.

This motel in our area is just under going a makeover, it has 11 rooms, one is a two bedroom apartment and they have done 2 lots of 2 rooms with connecting doors, fire doors which are sound proof and lockable for families etc..

So I wanted to thank everyone for their ideas and tips. I have started and made a few changes that I am quite pleased with so far and thought I would share. I got the rug but it look ridiculous because as I said I am not real good with colours however we have 24 rooms so the next room I do I start with the rug!!

Just a thought, are you able to paint the ceiling white and mount the TV on the wall

Thanks guys. The tv is something we are going to do. As for the ceiling being white. We would also like to paint all the walls (apart from the feature walls) a beige or cream colour or antique white with white ceilings to lighten the rooms. However I gave up on that last year when I went to paint shop and got some samples. I was devastated that the colour of the walls right now is in the whites!! I thought it was salmon pink! Then to get a colour to match the (pink) benches did my head in. Again I’ll explain. I can paint plumb build and fix anything but design and colour I am hopeless at. The hubby is even worse!!! And when I had in my head the white with a tinge of brown I couldn’t find it. When I thought I did, it didn’t match!!

Just plain old ceiling white would do the job, get a thick coating one to save time. keep it simple this will make your job easy.
