I agree... That shower faucet could be a problem to replace - you have to go to the exact same manufacturer to replace the trim pieces because the inner water valve is not something that can be used with a different company.

If you really want to go simple to start - I would try to color match the tile in the shower ( on my screen it looks like a different white than the tub ) and paint the vanity, mirror and walls in that...then see before tackling the faucets...

A lot of Scandinavian design is all white or off whit then a few statement pieces... maybe the faucets could be those...

Based on the door to the bathroom , not sure how modern or minimal you can be in your new home...

I wouldn't change a thing - and certainly not paint the vanity white or gray. The dark complements the other design features very well. White would be off balance. While it might not be your specific taste, it is a tasteful lovely space in which all the elements work well together.

leave the vanity alone! it's a nice contrast to all the white. if you must change something, change the mirror and perhaps do brushed nickel faucet/hardware, but then you'd have to change the shower faucet as well. you want to spend all that?

maybe switch out the knobs on the vanity to crystal or something

Try BM Smoke Embers or Abelone for the wall color. a white paint next to that off white shower tile, will only make it look creamier.

what's the ceiling look like? I love something like this for that bathroom.

and get a nice piece of art or trio w/towels for over the toilet.

or some warm wood shelving w/plants.

I like this idea too,,,a white wainscot and a very dark charcoal wall, the shelving and artwork, nice white towels, and the wood beadboard ceiling. Wow. Then you'd have a fine looking bathroom.

similar style bath that you have, and what you like. the wood is nice because it adds a little warmth to the space. I would have used gold fixtures in your bath, because I like how it looks w/white/black/gray. You just need to add a few items, change the mirror, paint, to make it what you like.

Yes, the shower subway tile is a creamy vanilla, while the tub is white-white. So I can safely paint the walls a creamy vanilla or BM Abalone?

I love the last photo Beth posted: the brass wall-mounted sink fixtures and wooden cabinet vanity. That’s the dream.

As Debbi noticed, the house is older: a bungalow built in 1906 and beautifully rehabbed by the sellers. They kept a lot of period detail, like the old doors and doorknobs and original window glass, while making some modern updates in other areas. The mix of old and new is one of the things I love about the house.

In any case, I will follow the suggestions to live in the house a few months before doing anything.

I WILL add that darker hardware and vanity is helping to marry the vanilla and bighter whites. The "light blue"? Rather than white. try a VERY , VERY, pale gray, a warmer shade. My guess? Homeowner goof on her paint selection. : ) which may have been an attempt at a pale gray

I like the light gray idea too.

SW crushed ice is a very pale gray.

the Abalone color? I mixed BM Smoke Embers and Abalone and got this color. I did my neighbors bathroom. similar size to yours with white shower tile.

I'm not a fan of the warm wall colors, but this is a situation that crys out for it. Adjusting the wall color to compliment the Vanilla color of the tile would be a winner, IMHO. Perhaps something like Creme SW 7556 (https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-family/SW7562-roman-column#/7556/?s=similarColors&p=PS0). It's very hard to tell the exact color of the tile, but a complimentary color to the tile on the wall will warm the space and make the hardward and cabinet work much better, for minimal cost. The dark wood will look stunning against a creamy background, the toilet and the tub will pop in the white, with the floor remaining the star. The copper tones in the hardware will look excellent.
