Hi! This mudroom is less than a year old. It use to be a veranda but lack of an entrance way gave us the bright idea to make it a mudroom. Its highly functional as its the entrance into our home, place we keep our sports equipment, dining and lounging area for our dog, and due to the lack of closet in that room all our our shoes and coats are on display. We live in Ontario with our 2 small kids so as you can imagine we have lots of footwear depending on the season, same with coats, hats and mitts. You'll also notice lots of rubber boots and this is because we live on a farm. The rubber boots, farm coats, dog, and hockey equipment also provide this room with an interesting smell. I also find this room is in constant choas (I cleaned for the pics) because hats, mitts, boots are just dropped at the door. What I like about this room: the color (burnt orange and barn board from our barn), as you can tell from the hardware above the door we are having a sliding barn door made, and built in shelves (they are currently empty). This room measures 18feet by 6 feet. What I would love some help with is: ideas to make coats, hats and mitts organized and maybe hidden while still easily accessible to our 3 and 5 year old, ideas for filling the shelves keeping in mind its an open book shelve with 3 levels with no backing so the shelves can be viewed from the other side (our living room), I love the vintage snow shoes in one of the pics and looking for some ideas on where in the room and in what position to hang them, and finally some decorations on the wall (not just the Halloween ones you see in the pics, Happy Halloween everyone).
