I'm sorry, but we don't have enough information...

    • How big is your Kitchen?
    • How many cabinets?
    • Builder-grade, stock, semi-custom, or custom?
    • Painted? Stained wood?
    • Wood? MDF?
    • Other finishes?
    • Accessories?
    • Region where you live?

All these things will affect the cost.

A small Kitchen might spend $15K and get all custom cabinets. A large Kitchen might spend the same but only get stock.

That said, have you considered IKEA? A few years ago when Consumer Reports rated cabinets, IKEA was the top choice for basic cabinets. Their cabinets have a lot of high-end options as standard -- e.g., soft-close drawers.

If you can assemble them yourselves, you can probably spend less than $10K, depending on the size of your Kitchen, of course!

Added photos of the layout showing how many cabinets. Looking for semi-custom wood cabinets. They will be painted dark grey- I know this will be additional and wasn’t factoring it into the $10-15K number. Located in New Jersey. Willing to go to $20K for quality cabinets. Appreciate your input!

Wow, I wish a certain opinionated Aunt was around. She would definitely have some ideas...

We looked at Kraftmaid when we remodeled our kitchen 2 years ago. We ended up having custom cabinets made from a local cabinet maker, but were seriously considering Kraftmaid (semi-custom), all wood construction. I suggest you look at custom cabinetry, We thought it would be unaffordable, but it ended up being about the same price as Kraftmaid. Good luck!

I second the Ikea suggestion. You might also look at Bertch and Medallion. Both are reasonably priced semi custom. Bertch has also has a stock line, and Medallion has several lines at different price points. We have had both brands in the semi custom and both looked good and held up well.

Bertch will also make custom pieces for you, for an up charge. They modified our tray pull out for us and quoted several other modifications I asked about.

I third the Ikea option. The boxes and hardware really last, I can attest to that. Have you looked at pictures of the semi-custom Ikea kitchens? Here's a kitchen I just did with custom doors (which were not that much more than Ikea's)

@jace327 thank you - beautiful kitchen!

We love our Medallion cabinets -- I would get those priced out to see if it works in your budget.

I have gotten Kraftmaid and Medallian silver line estimates in the $13k range. I’m waiting on a quote for custom cabinets. Kariyava-what line of Medallian cabinets did you get? Thanks!

IMo Ikea is the best bang for your buck and all wood cabinets are truly overrated. I would do Ikea before Kraftmaid anytime.

Gold, and we upgraded to plywood boxes, all for around $15k. Know that Medallion quotes vary quite a bit depending on door style though, so if you like two different door styles, price them both out because they could end up being very different in terms of cost.

Kariyava-thank you! I have a quote for silverline upgraded to all plywood and it’s around $13k. I’m still confused what the difference bw silver and gold are..

    J&K Espresso cabinets.

Maple wood cabinets that come with soft closes.

    a 10x 10 here in VA costs about $5,500-$4,500.

I use them all the time. My clients choose J&K 90% of the time.

Hope there's a dealer near you.

You should definitely check with your kitchen people for confirmation, but from what I can tell, here are the differences between Medallion silver and gold:

Gold has many more door style options. Not an issue if you like the silver options.

Gold has many more "finish" options (types of wood, stains, paints, glazes, etc.). Not an issue if you like the silver options.

More options generally. I am not sure exactly what the differences are, but the gold line just has more options in terms of customizable things you may or may not want when designing your kitchen. For example, I think (but I'm not sure so you should check) that the silver line may not have a super susan option (but the gold definitely does). This may not be an issue if you if you don't need/want specialty items.

Basically, you get far more options with gold than silver, but if you like the silver options, I think the quality is the same so don't be afraid to go with silver!

IKEA is nice, a good value. Medallion was my 2nd choice; as previously mentioned, big difference in prices based on door style.

@ OP -- Suggestion: would skip upgrade to all plywood, and spend the $$$ getting drawer base cabinets.

Thanks for the information! My estimate does have all drawer bases (yay!) there is another door style I like better (my quote is for the Lancaster) so I might price it out. Sounds like if you can find color and style in silver, it’s the way to go!

I would highly recommend Kraftmaid cabinets. We ordered ours from Lowe's and spent right around $10K. This included a few customizations, upgraded plywood boxes, and a painted finish, which is an upgrade. We also got a deal where we got a gift card for 10% of the price of our cabinets. We then used that for our counters. I have been very happy with them!

    This angle cabinet was custom.

This is a shallow pantry that is the width of our fridge. Our most expensive customization, but so worth it!

The base cabinet on the right is a pull out trash can.

IKEA will be able to fit your budget and probably your design ideas.

My Medallion cabinets are over 20 years old and still holding up.

When I first joined this forum, most said the best boxes are plywood, but I have seen that change and many pros now say that a good MDF box is fine. Mine are not plywood - I think they are MDF - and not the best MDF, but still solid - I know because I tried to cut one apart to change it up.

Painted cabinets, even high end cabinets, are often MDF or a combo of MDF and wood - usually maple because it paints well. Wood moves with changes in temp and humidity which can cause hairline cracks in the paint at joints. For this reason, most painted cabinets have MDF parts - it is more stable to changes in temp which helps prevent the paint cracks.

A good stained cabinet will have solid wood doors and frames - not veneer.

If you do not need to go custom, stock cabinets made in America can give a good quality at a reasonable price. The ability to factory mass produce makes stock less than custom.

Be sure to be around if possible for the installation. Cabinets can get dinged up if installers aren't careful. Check te cabinets as they are unboxed and try to catch problems before install.

    Avoid foil cabinets. They peel.
