My old eyes cannot tell. Does it have spines? The orange and purplish-black striped coloration looks like the caterpillar for a gulf fritillary. There is a little variation in spine length, but compare it to this photo:

I cannot see spines along the length of the body in the Sarah image.

Cinnabar moth caterpillar is a possibility.

@gyr_falcon -No spines on mine, more like, little hairs.

@ The Logician LLC -those look almost more, yellow with black bands. But, a good try though.

It isn't very large, maybe an Inch and a half at most at full length.

If you know the name of the plant it was on, that would help, as some caterpillars are limited to specific host plants.

Problem is, I found the little guy on a brick wall. So I wished I could help there but, I have no idea what he wants food wise. He's refusing some of the typical stuff I've fed Salt Marsh Moth caterpillars. So, he's not being easy to figure out.

Next time, leave a wandering caterpillar alone. Allow it to travel....caterpillars move to locations where pupation can take place and need to be allowed to do so without being interrupted.
