Wardrobe under wall AC unit: yes or no?

Hi all,

I just moved into a new studio apt, and was thinking about getting an Ikea PAX wardrobe to live just underneath the wall placement for an AC unit which is just under 80" from the floor to the bottom of the opening to insert an AC unit in the wall. I'm really a novice at home stuff like this but just wanted to throw out the question if this is a kosher move?

I'm trying to rack my brain on what the cons would be but all I could get is that maybe it might be a slight pain if I had to get to the AC unit (once I install one in there) -- but with a high enough ladder could make it work to reach the thing...thoughts?

PAX wardrobes all look like they are 93 1/8" tall. But IKEA probably has something that will fit.

A lot of window AC's have remote controls so getting to the knobs probably not a factor except for when the RC goes into hiding....probably good idea to Velcro it to a wall close by.

Are you sure the PAX will fit? We have some and I find them huge. Another consideration is your AC unit might leak and that might damage the PAX.

They sell Pax wardrobes with a height of 79 1/8" in in addition to the 93" option. And here's a photo to give you a better picture of the corner I'm working with, and where you can see the AC unit opening >> PHOTO (hopefully this link works -- my laptop has almost zero memory and i cant download/upload anything)

Assuming this is a window-type A/C unit mounted into the wall ... access is required on a recurring basis to clean the air filter.

I think it's going to be a PITA to get to the A/C. No other wall where to put the PAX?

A window unit type put in the wall may leak into the room if it is not angled right for drainage....or the drain line might clog up with dirt, leaves, pollen, an insect's nest....just sayin'. From experience. I had an ac unit get clogged up with a bird's nest and it drained into the room....all over the floor and curtains. And it wasn't just a drip or two...it was inches. Before I could get someone out to clean it, I had to put a baking pan underneath it to catch the water and I had to dry out the carpeting with a fan. Not fun. So I would suggest putting nothing underneath an ac unit that would get damaged by water.
