Just following up. I sent out the seeds today to Florida_Joes, Jay, Javiwa and dirty gardener. The seeds pods are totally brown yet but I was tired of waiting for them to finish drying. So, when you get them just lay them out and let dry until brown and you can hear the seeds rattling when shaken before opening the pods.

I got mine, but unfortunately, I didn't let the pods dry. I did get what look like about 10 viable seeds, which I'm drying out now and will plant later. I was afraid they would rot or mold left in the wet pods. Thank you! I'm sure I'll get at least one or two plants out of them, and that's all I need.

I'm glad that you all got your seeds. If you need more just let me know. I must have 50-60 pods currently on the plant.

I left mine in the envelope for about a week and when I cleaned them 2 nights ago they were nice and dry and brittle. I got about 14 very nice mature seeds. That's more than enough because I was only going to grow one or two plants in pots.

Do you have any left? I love this cassia, and would like to try to start from seed. Here in Ft.laud. I see a lot of golden rain shower cassias, but no popcorn ones.

Hey guys. I know that several of you had problems with the seeds. I have at least 50 pods drying on the tree now. I can send out more once they dry out.

Thanks so much, Rhonda. I'm blaming my potential 'issues' on the post office, taking almost two weeks to deliver my envelope of goodies. I don't know if they'll 'take', but I went ahead and placed into potting mix what seeds looked the healthiest. If they sprout, I'll let you know and save you the trouble -- i.e., don't rush on my account. :) Hope everything's okay on your end.

ETA: I wonder if this time of year, USPS is making Amazon shipments their highest priority. I paid Priority rates to ship a box of cookies to my son 3 hours away, and it'll take three days to arrive! In the past, a box sent halfway across the country took only two days.

Javi, a year ago I sent my son in Deland (4 hours away by car) a small box containing camera filters. The post office typed the zip code incorrectly and I didn't notice it on the tracking receipt. So, the package went to Nashville based on the incorrect zip in system (never mind that the address on the package had the correct address and zip for Deland). They tried to deliver the package in Nashville (uh...how?). Then who knows where it went but it's still lost more than a year later!

That's just awful, Rhonda. What a shame. Were you able to at least recoup $50 in value (free insurance for value up to $50, I believe).

Javi, no I wasn't. They say it's an active search LOL Once more seed pods dry, I'll send you just the seeds. Maybe you'll have better luck that way of the Post Office takes so long to deliver again.

I hope by now that you have received the new batch of seeds that I sent out 2 weeks ago. Javi had issues with getting the seeds I sent her a while back. It was the post office. Please let me know if you didn't get the new batch and I'll try once more.

The roots are really shallow so that grow box show be fine. My 10 foot tall plant's roots are maybe a foot deep. My garden is full of good soil but if it gets extremely windy I have to stake the plant up.

Sorry Rhonda...yes I got the second batch of seeds, I forgot to thank you for them. I wasnt expecting you to send more. I thank you very much. I have planted them all in a big tray, so far, nothing is happening. But it has been 'cold' here off and on for weeks. Upper 40's-50's at night. They past week has been VERY cold, for Ft.laud.low 40's-50 for days. So if they put out roots they could have died in the cold nights and thats that. Or it is slowing them down greatly.

I am just waiting. :)

These things spread all over the yard here and come up randomly by themselves. Maybe better to just scatter the seeds in the yard.

Rhonda: Thanks again for the new batch of seeds! Just thought I'd report back, for the benefit of others.

Our weather's been all over the place; and between weather and too-active squirrels digging in our beds AND pots non-stop, I just start all my seeds indoors.

Rhonda wasn't kidding when she said the cassia seeds sprout quickly. I soaked the seeds overnight in distilled water, then roughed up the outer coating with a nail file. Not sure these steps were necessary. I placed them into a tray of potting mix + coarse sand + perlite and have kept moist since Feb 2. It's now Day 4, and they're sprouting already! Potting media is kept indoors and under a warm-ish lamp (incandescent 'candle' bulb) during the day.

I soaked my seeds for 24 hours. I didn't nick them but they were plumped up after soaking. It's been about 6 days and still nothing. They are in a light mix of coco peat, perlite, and potting soil. Everything else has germinated except the Gomphocarpus cancellatus and Mimosa pudica. The Tithonia seedlings are beautiful. I'll probably need to move them to bigger pots soon. I've been sprinkling mycorrhizae in the bins. It's good for germination and also good for the plants. It's very important for milkweed health.

I've gotten a bit behind and haven't done anything with my grove of tithonia that self-seeded. I may try to move a few before they get too large, but it'll end up being survival of the fittest in that bed!
