Hi Mr1010, thanks! I'm in zone 9a I think, though sometimes we do get the occasional mid 20's but its rare thank goodness. Both mine are in pots because they do not like temps below 40...this way I can bring them inside when necessary. That one is in a 10" pot.

This one is in a 18" pot and has about 6 blooms right now...Hi Tropicbreezent this one has never bloomed for me. But the smaller potted one had one bloom last year...there is another poster here that has this plant also. Thanks!

I remember when you got those. So glad they finally bloomed for you.

Mr1010, forgot to answer your question no special care. I water when dry. Fertilize every couple of weeks ( half strength) when it's growing new leaves and I have it in bright light, no direct afternoon sun it will burn the leaves. An hour or so of early morning sun this time of year is okay.

WOW!!!! Puglvr...that is amazing. So lush! Mine unfortunately died. First it got attacked by mealy and then it got a disease that it is famous for... Botrytis Cinerea. It went up the stems like a fire blight. I might try again in the future...I guess it just got too wet and not enough air movement during the summer. :(

Thanks!! Very sorry to hear about your plant blutayle. You definitely should try again...they are worth it. In summer 2017 I accidentally left mine outside after watering it. The hot afternoon sun burnt a lot of the leaves and the plant looked very sad and scrawny after I removed all the damaged leaves. Thank goodness it recovered after many months...I've been keeping the large one in my screened porch with very little direct sun (morning) only.

Hi Odyssey3, it's been many years but I think I got one from a local " Spring Plant Sale" in my area and hubby gifted me another smaller one he said he bought from Ebay. They are not easy to find. I found a Medinilla 'myriantha' at Lowe's one year but they have never carried the Medinilla 'magnifica' :o(

You might try calling a couple of Florist shops, they "might" be able to find it for you...Good Luck!

odyssey3, don't know where you are located, but in greater Orlando ERG in Volusia County grows several species, a seller at Mt Dora flea has had Mm, for the past several years, and I just got one of the Dutch clones from a 'guest seller' at Orchids in Bloom in Apopka. I've seen them in a few mom and pop places in Orlando proper also. They are also easy from cuttings outdoors in summer.

Thanks puglvr. I am surprised so many other varities of Medinilla are so much easier to find. Thanks KennsWoods. I am in Miami but for sure will keep this in mind for next time I am in Orlando. I am thinking of going to the next Krull-Smith open house.

I've got the weekend of 01/21/22 penciled in for K-S. In the past I've not seen medinilla there. Orchids in Bloom is 10 or so minutes from K-S and the vendor with medinilla has been there the last two times I've been. Typically K-S and OiB trade show dates every 2-3 months.

Was at Fairchild a couple weeks ago to see palms. Last time I was there was pre-Andrew, and it was much changed, and not for the better IMOP. The conservatory was impressive though, with several medinillas.

I know Orchids in Bloom comes to our smaller rose shows around MIami/Redlands but I guess the Medinilla vendor does not. I will get by to check on them at their home.

I have not lived here all that long, so don't know Fairchild pre-Andrew. I am a member and the conservatory is my favorite thing. I'd be interested to hear what has changed for the worse.

• I guess changed for the worse is subjective. At one time Fairchild was known for palms, and if memory serves, palms was what they had pre- Andrew. Seems like there are a lot less now, I didn't see several plantings of Bismarkia and Latania I remembered, but maybe Irma took them out, or I missed them. I was impressed with the Madagascar collection of dry land thorny and caudiciform plants, and the rainforest. Easy to criticize I guess.
