I wouldn't paint the brick wall because I think it looks fantastic with the trim but I'm sure a case could be made for painting it. I know it's easier to paint when a place is empty but your furnishings should influence your wall colour. They might give you a different vibe once in your new home and that might change your whole decor scheme. The other thing that will influence your wall colour is lighting. If you'll be changing the current lighting, you might want to do that before picking out your paint colour(s). Bonne chance!

I love painted brick houses...the brick being on the OUTSIDE! I would not paint that brick interior wall. It adds a lot of character to the house. If I really disliked it that much, I would not have bought the house.

Would not paint the brick. Only the most ugly brick should ever be painted and your wall has great potential to be an attractive feature of the room.

Would, however, contact a pro to have it thoroughly cleaned before moving in to remove all that white stuff that appears to be smeared -- grout/cement -- onto the wall from the face of the brick. After you see how that turns out, you might then consider staining the grout.

There are hooks meant for use on brick walls. Here is one kind.

I lieu of creating scattered holes all over the brick wall that could show if you ever wanted to change the locations of where you've hung your art, you could add a single row of horizontal boards at the top of the wall (against the ceiling) and hang art from eye hooks in that 2"x4" board with heavy duty fishing line -- nearly invisible.

We would not recommend painting the brick wall. It add character.

That brick is fab, leave it!

UGLY cement block, but if you like an industrial look, leave it as is. If your taste is more refined, you might want to cover it with something (paint, drywall, paneling.)

I LOVE painted brick! I don't care if it's ugly brick or nice brick--I love the look. I think opinions on painting brick are as strong as opinions on whether people should be required to remove their shoes when entering a house. :-) In your case, I don't think that's typical brick. Maybe it's more of a cement block or stone block? It looks acceptable as is, but I think it would look great painted a creamy or off-white.

I WOULD LEAVE THE BRICK. IF YOU DON'T CARE FOR IT REORIENT THE FURNITURE TO FACE THE OTHER DIRECTION. HAVE THE SOFA FACING THE PLAIN WALL. THE PICTURES AND TV WOULD BE EASIER TO VIEW. DITCH THE COAT RACK AND SHOE HUTCH. CHANGE OUT THE LIGHT FIXTURES.
