Need backsplash suggestions

Hi all.

The counters went in today and we need to pick our backsplash. Since our counter is busy, we are thinking subway tile. Here are pics of two we have so far. We are also open to glass subway tile, just not sure about the color. Any thoughts?

I also prefer the white. What are your countertops? They are gorgeous!

Tgb1 - Thanks! My husband really pushed for this granite. It was labelled Khyber from the granite yard where we bought it. I suspect it's sold under other names elsewhere.

Really beautiful. Are the painted walls a finished color?

Nice kitchen, but a little dark. I would work on installing under cabinet lights, then the darker tile would work. As it is, you need the shiny white to help reflect some light.

Tgb1 - yes the walls are the finished color. Front Porch from Sherwinn Williams

Ulisdone - I actually do have under cabinet lights. I forgot to turn all the lights on for the pics. And to be honest, I have a feeling I won't have them on often. I had them in the old kitchen with the same layout and hardly ever turned them on. So maybe a lighter shade of gray? Any thoughts on a color besides gray and white?

Here's a pic with the under cabinet lights on.

White here, too! You want a backsplash to reflect as much light as possible - nothing to "swallow" it up the way a darker backsplash will do.

Looks like maybe Bianco Antico. Beautiful. I agree with the white for the same reasons.

This reminds me of my old kitchen; I did a glass mosaic in the color of the glassy quartz in the stone. Apparently I didn't take any photos after it was finished! The gray subway could also work in that color or a bit lighter.

I vote white subway. (LOVE your countertops!! They deserve top billing, IMO!)

Thanks for all of the votes. We picked up a few more samples today. Any thoughts?

We just had our kitchen redone by EMH Design and have similar granite counter top. We went with the cream color subway tile.

Love that darker grey tile - it has some nice shadowing on it and would beautiful installed. Also really like the glass one all the way on the right ...

The white subway would be a fall back if all else fails. Too plain for me...

    Good luck!!

I have this granite and and love it. In your first photo, I like the gray on the left. In your last photo I like the light gray on the right. White subway is too bright for this stone I think.

Mona,,I really prefer the darker tile over the white. (if you had dark cabs, I'd go white). I hate the 3x6 size. like the longer ones of either the glass or ceramic.

here's your stone, white cabs and 3x6 light gray subways.

I don't even mind the pale blue one you have. It's different and pretty.

I really like the looks of this tile. It's Agora Piastrella Sage (shown w/Cambria quartz)

don't know if you want to wait or don't mind spending a bit, but these glass tiles are stunning. I Like Moonlight or Tide, or the black sand.

these are from Emser tiles. two diff gray tones. Fawn/Craft.

    Tilebar-Smokey Taupe glass subway 3x12

these are the Wz cocoon tiles I mentioned (comes in subway tiles too)

I like these darker, middle one. w/your granite it would look perfect. Ann Sacks

The Pearl Shimmer is also nice. here's a close up

Of your latest samples I like the one in the far left (longest shape) and the one on the far right (again longest shape) best. I would probably go with the one on the far right. If you are leaning towards a white/cream/taupe, please make sure you examine it carefully next to your cabinets and wall too to make sure it doesn’t clash.

Hi everyone. I really appreciate your advice. We've narrowed it down to two of the glass tiles and will be ordering them in the large 3x12 size. My husband is pushing for the darker one. I'm leaning towards the lighter. Ignore the tiles sitting on top of the glass, we set them there to block the light from passing through the glass.

I like the lighter tile. It sounds like he picked the counter then you should pick the backsplash.

Go for white subway or a very light grey. Anything else might be too dark.

Sorry - I'm the opposite - go dark - more dramatic...

Either way - as long as you love it, then its perfect!

the light one is actually medium. I think that's what I'd pick...it will be dark enough when you have a whole stretch of it. he will be surprised.

I had a thought. What if I used both color glass tiles and alternated them? Would that look odd?

Yes. And busy. Either would be fine but not both.

    Mona thanked kariyava
Using both may seem like a way to compromise, but it wouldn’t look good.
I have very similar granite! We went darker but have lots of light and very little backsplash. Light or dark would look great with your counters and cabinets. What is your floor? Can you take a pic of the whole kitchen? Your choice might depend on how much light you get.. Unless you have lots of light, I’d probably go with the lighter one. But I’m so glad you aren’t going with white subway tile!!! Too boring :) Good luck!

mona, any way you can finish off the island w/some trim work? (paint it to match your cab color).

    any tile options yet?

I know, boring white subway tile!! But, I love it!.

I like the white subway tile because it doesn't compete with the gorgeous granite.

Kathi, came out great. the window really pops. I'd love to see that blue color in your rug, up above the cabs on the wall. it would really compliment your stained glass. Love your floors too

Thank you!! Every time I walk into my kitchen, it takes my breath away!!

I know it is very white, but, I wanted to be able to decorate it in any color. So, when I get tired of the blue, I can go to any color and it will go!!

The semi attached family room is a light blue, so I don't want the kitchen to compete too much. The FR is a very muted beach theme. Blue walls, white furniture, etc. The beige in the kitchen continues the "sand" color without being obnoxious!!

Try Beth’s idea of blue paint using poster board before rejecting it.
Neglected to add that your kitchen. really pretty, not boring at all.

I will try it. We are replacing flooring upstairs and down! I may be getting too old for this!!! I am not sure I am up for painting yet. Maybe this summer!!
