Were my cabinets ordered correctly?

Our Omega Dynasty vanity cabinets just came in. There's a sink base and two drawer stacks. They are plywood construction and all six sides have matching veneer. One drawer cabinet will attach to a wall, so I was only expecting veneer on the exposed side of the end drawer cabinet. Is this standard for these cabinets or did we pay extra for veneered sides that will be hidden between the boxes?

Here's the sink cabinet.

Thank you. I just don't see why they'd go through the extra step of staining the sides knowing they'll be hidden.

IS that their frameless line? I think on that line the sides are automatically finished due to the construction. I think the face frame line has unfinished sides and you pay for the ones that are exposed.

Yes, it's their full access line. What makes you think they're finished on that line? The stained outside is part of the layers of plywood. You might be able to see it better here if you click on the photo.

The higher end cabinet lines usually come finished on all sides. I use J&K cabinets often, they all come finished.

Thanks. It seems odd that they bother to stain thousands and thousands of cabinets. Would painted cabinets be painted on the sides?

With the frameless lines I think they finish the plywood and then cut it and edge band it for the cabinets, then assemble, while on a framed cabinet i think the finish process is different. Its all dependent on how the assembly line is set up.

It's actually much easier with frameless cabinets, since the sides are flush, to just finish them both - less of a chance for an unfinished side to get overlooked or done on the wrong side.

Debbies is correct. Many cabinet manufacturers make a whole finished panel on 1 side then cut and use the finished sides on the exteriors & the unfinished sides are automatically inside. I only use cabinet lines that come finished on all sides. It's easier to order, too.

Thank you. I'll ask my kitchen/bath designer and see if he's as surprised as I was.

Hi mayflowers. As a premium cabinet manufacturer, Omega automatically finishes both sides of all bath cabinetry as standard. We hope you enjoy your beautiful cabinetry for years to come. Thank you for your purchase!

Thank you! I've gotten so many mixed responses to this here and on FB.

Some manufacturers consider it a time and money saver to make both sides finished. Less chances for error and they can work faster on the manufacturing line...so it totally makes sense. I wish all my cabinet lines finished both sides. Some of my lines do, other we have to specify. I so love when I don't have to think about it....and there's peace of mind that I didn't make an error.

One other bonus: Years from now, it will be great if you ever decide to redo the kitchen ....the cabinets can easily be rearranged and installed in the basement or garage....without worrying about an unfinished end.
