How to Fix a Crack in a Concrete Basement Floor?

Our home was built in the winter of 2017 in Central Massachusetts. The basement's concrete floor has developed a 1/4" wide by approximately 2 1/2" deep crack across the basement floor. The builder told us when the floor was poured it was not uncommon that a crack could develope as the concrete cured.

What is the best way to fix it?

Best way to do this is to chase the crack with a chisel and clean up the edges.

Buy 1/4-1/2" closed cell backer rod, you can get it on amazon for $6.

Put that inside the crack along entire length about 1/2" deep and in the same place you can order and get Quikcrete Cement Crack Filler (home depot might be cheaper for this item)

You can also use Sika or Quikrete self leveling concrete filler it sold in most Home depot stores

HD also sells the backer rod, but I'm not sure if they have 1/4" or 1/2" I think they only have 3/4"... just make sure to get the one intended for concrete not windows (frost king brand), it would be Sika brand usually, they would know "hopefully".

Just be aware that this crack may continue to develop, so you may have to redo the repair in the future.

I'd try hydraulic cement.

Hydraulic cement is not good for that application, the crack is to small , it dries to fast and it will make a huge mess especially if they DIY and don't have experience working with it.

The items I showed they're just as good and intended for these types of repairs.

as long as your cracks are not out of plane movement id agree with GN backer and a sika seal filler.

Would an epoxy type filler be a better more permanent fix?
