Looks like one side has an electrical outlet. You could add a recirculating fountain there. The other side could be a shade garden with some sunlight. Look at fuchsias and coleus, also, check with your local nursery to see if there are fragrant native plants you could use there.

Love the idea of potted plants on the pavers. A porch swing could be nice as well. And I like to emphasize the importance of outdoor lighting. Can make a world of difference in whether or not you actually use the space!

I say no way to ANY seating this is your front entry! Unless you have no back yard this will just look cluttered and tacky. Keep it clean in keeping with your modern home. Plants are always a nice touch.

Those crotons look in perfect shape, there is no reason to just discard them.

I am thinking that the space in front of the crotons that is partially covered by roof and is shielded from the street would be a great place to sit and read.

You could put a chair and a foot stool and a side table and bring out a pitcher of ice tea and be set for the afternoon.

Maybe something simple in wood, like cedar. Or an adirondack chair.

I might even take a nap instead of read :)
