Typically you will want the back panel to line up with the false doors on the end of your island or have them line up with the cabinet box itself. Both will give you slightly different overall looks depending on what you are going for.

The top will hide the difference. Ours are not the same but look fine.

I didn't see your question until now! I mean that the box of the cabinet itself, not including the cabinet doors or false doors on the end of the cabinet.
