What to do about the gap above the door

My wife and I recently moved into a new apartment. We love the open design, but aren't such big fans of the huge gap for ductwork above the bedroom doors:

We've flirted with a few ideas, like running a curtain rod over the top of the ductwork and putting curtains on either side or cutting out a piece of wood to fit the gap. I'm curious if any design whizzes around here have any ideas or advice? The main concern is light and sound filtering into the rooms. We'd like to have guests stay with us but this doesn't allow for a lot of privacy, currently.

Frame it and sheetrock it, paint the same color as the surrounding walls... fast and simple, I don't know what else you want to do there...

A curtain can block light but won't help with sound in any meaningful way. I'd look into putting a drywall panel up there with a cut around the duct if possible. Glass is also an option but wouldn't help with light.

I will add that this is an apartment, so anything permanent really isn't an option.

It don't have to be permanently, after you move out, take the partition out.

Ok just read light and sound. Hmmm. Since this is an apartment I don’t think you have any option. Unless you want to get creative with foamcore panels but that will just look rinky dink. Just live with it.

Go to a park or a friend's yard pick up some small 2'-3' brush branches ( not tree branches), spray paint them in silver color, put a few silver branches above the door, and along the ductwork (tie them to the ductwork), weave in and out with sheer white fabric along the ductwork. It would look dramatic and great for the Holiday season. Not sure what to do after the New Year though....... you could get a canopy bed, use the same sheer white fabric on the canopy. :-)
