Bedside Table Help - getting married

I'm trying to find some bedside tables for my future master bedroom, and I'm at a loss. My fiance originally purchased a massive California king (sleigh?) bed and a matching dresser. He's been using mismatched bedside tables, but now that we're getting married, I'd like to find something that compliments the room and furniture. The bed is very masculine, so I was hoping for some night stands that balance it out - maybe something with gold in them? We'll have a white duvet and white sheets with deep blue accent pillows, and we'll be painting the room a cool taupe. I also plan on hanging curtains on the window and around it to make the window seem bigger.

Any ideas on what we should use for nightstands? Photos below:

Looked at your video and I do think your bed is In the best spot...wow it is tight!

best thing is to add a wide rod over the window above the bed as wide as the headboard and do drapes....like this...to make endow appear larger...

There are so many open bottom round nightstands and they can have a lower shelf if needed....alldepends on that space...looks small.

How do you feel about a wall of drapes behind the bed?

Forget the mirror, unless it's your thing, but this kind of idea...

Your room is small, but it would give it a softness and a wonderful boutique hotel kind of feel...

    Pennydesign...great Minds think alike!:)

Lol...I would do the entire wall, though...I think it adds drama to a small room where you can't fit much drama...

But there is another window to address in the room and I think they should be treated the same or it will look awkward in such a small space..making them appear to be the same size will look more cohesive.

I'm just not a fan of a headboard that covers part of the window, so I would disguise the fact that a window is there...and have a roman blind at the other window...

Between the two of us we can make this room fab, Julie(?)...we don't need no homeowner :)))

If there's not much room for tables, you need to maximize their size. Round is the absolute LAST shape you want! That's not a matter of taste or style, but practicality.

And while we're being practical, get the lamps off the tables and put them on the wall--swing-arm lamps placed within reach.

You will spend 90% of your time in that room asleep in the dark. An open-bottom table will offer you no utility. You need tables that are useful, not showpieces.

I wouldn't use gold or shiny either, just a nice darkish wood that goes with the headboard.

Oh Tatts you are always so cranky!:))))

plenty of round open bottom tables with a drawer...and they come in smaller sizes that work great in tight spaces..and the open bottom help them room from looking cramped...plug in wall lamps are always An option but a slender tall lamp can save space and allow you to add that touch on each night stand....because some just love the look Of a lamp..

Next to bed with little detail [compared to dresser] this? Antique gold and platinum finish. The mirror glass panel inserts frame the drawers. 27.99"L x 17.99"W x 29.02"H

Oh my - you guys are just wonderful!! I'm waiting on my fiance to get home so he can measure the space (I'm out of town), then I'll have a better idea what we're working with. I do know he'll want drawers or storage of some kind in the night stands. And I do like the look of a lamp. I'm not sure how wall lamps would work if we have drapes behind the bed - but I'm learning, so please share if that could work!

The instructions for curtains behind the headboard are JUST what I was looking for @Home Interiors with Ease and @Pennydesign. That's next on my list too. I was thinking a lighter color to brighten the room instead of dark?

J Smith did you measure your space?

Yes! Sorry for the delay. I am in the midst of wedding planning and got side tracked. The mattress is 22 inches from the floor. The side area for the nightstands is 33 inches (from the bed to the wall on either side). What else?

  • PRO

Oh that’s a good amount of space but the mattress is low......so ...we have to be careful of the height...

Aw. Thank you! Mine is December 30 of this year, so we are doing a lot.

Should I look for tables that are around 22 inches?

Oh my goodness you are busy!...and such a busy time of the year...

the side tables can be 6-8” higher than the top of mattress

Okay, I will keep that in mind

It seems like both spaces are very tight. Maybe narrow nightstands would make the room a bit more spacious, something like this

    How wide is it!?

Would you consider giving up the footboard? Get a frame and just use the headboard.

@Home Interiors with Ease - My mother-in-law and sister-in-law are fans. I'm undecided, especially since the room is so small already and the furniture we have takes over the room. I also don't normally go for antiques, but I wanted to see if I was off base with that.

    @Flo - it's 26 inches, so it would fit.

    @Annette - I hadn't! What purpose would that serve?

It would give you more room, less claustrophobic. You could raise up the bed so it was not so low, which makes nightstands a bit easier to shop for.

Ooh I don't care for that one. You need a little brightness in there, a slightly feminine touch. I like everdebz suggestion a lot. I recently got wall mounted lights that I LOVE, completely transformed my bedroom.

I suggest 2 pendants due to the curtain plan (which I love)

these would add color and texture, I am crazy about them:

21"h by 15" diameter, so right in there size wise. Price, welllll.::

And I saw these yesterday-they are the perfect mix of feminine and masculine, just love them.

The colors here are wrong (teal with light green) but I love the how saturated color of the curtains gives it a rich, cozy, grown-up feel without being masculine. Curtains are from anthropologie

J Smith ....looking at your ideabook I think the antique chest is just to heavy of an antique look...it seems you love light painted wood and open bottom....here are two suggestions...

With the total of 33” you have plenty of space for nightstand and lamps.

    hi friends!

I wanted to give you an update on our Master bedroom and thank you for all your input and help late last year. While we had some budgetary constraints that led to not getting everything I wanted, I'm happy with the overall look of the bedroom.

We ordered some items from our wedding registry (drapes and rods are from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Comforter is from Crate and Barrel. Bedside tables and lamps are from Wayfair) and used some of what we already had (art work, pillows, blanket). We painted the walls a porcelain white and did a stark white trim. We also got new carpet and followed your suggestion for hanging the drapes on both sets of windows. One set of drapes is hung a little lower, causing the drapes to pool at the bottom, so I'm considering hemming them just a tad. The painting is hung too low too IMO, but I haven't gotten around to raising it a bit.

The room feels so different to me and is such a joy to be in. Thank you for being part of our journey.

Nice job and you did well incorporating items you already had. Calm and relaxing look. Don't you wish drapery companies would get drapery lengths right!! I will make one suggestion. Since you have the grommet drapes, they require more distance from the window to hang right. You can get adjustable brackets that would allow you to slide that rod out just a inch or so and help those drapes hang beautifully.

@Flo Mangan -- I didn't realize that was a possibility! Do you mean something like these?

Also, photos are now above! I had trouble getting them to upload initially.

Yes, exactly. Just make sure the size for the rod will fit your rod. Pretty easy fix. And not much cost!

Loading photos has been a big problem on Houzz for weeks. Sorry you had trouble. But they are up now and look really great. I love that highboy dresser! Is that an antique? Sure is pretty.

The bed is 'simple enough' to benefit from the circles. A beautiful chest, which to me increased the dressy look of the lady in your art. :)

thank you all so much! yay!

    Where'd you get the chest?

@everdebz I'm not sure. My husband bought it at a furniture store 8 or 9 years ago. It's part of a set (we have the bed but not the night stands)
