Shared living/dining area

My living and dining room share a wall and I can't think of a way to divide it into two separate feeling rooms. I currently have a gallery wall in the living space but it makes the rest of the wall in the dining space feel empty. Any tips to use to fill the space and visually split the rooms?

    Could you post pics?

Maybe look into a colonnade or cased opening between the rooms. Not sure if that'd work because I have zero sense of the space.

I'll definitely upload pics as soon as I'm able to! The room is 20x12 and the living space is basically 2/3 of the room. It is a rental so I'm not able to majorly change the structure or do anything that would leave damage. Thank you!

Back in the day, my mom had a credenza topped by glass étagères. Some beautiful glass items on display which were lit up by light from the window on the opposite wall. A small settee/sofa was up against the credenza on the back side facing the living room, giving it the look of an wall at the bottom and open shelving at the top. Created separate spaces but kept the light flowing through the room and kept the dining area from feeling closed off. She stored linens and silverware, etc. in the drawers of the credenza. You could do the same with just shelves, and use baskets to store items on the bottom shelves.

There is some stuff stored next to the couch right now but that will be moved soon.

Totally go for some glass etageres with maybe brass frames. Or just a narrow credenza if you want something low. And there are also low glass etageres for the best of both worlds. Even some that double as carts for more functionality.

Remove the framed pictures at the sides of the window (they should never go there) and hang them at the end of the table, on the same wall as the sofa.

I would not add any more furniture to the room, and especially nothing to divide the space. You've already got the table pushed against the wall.

I would, however, move the leather chair at right angles to the sofa so it faces the dining. The way it is now makes it look like a waiting room, or a theater. Definitely not a place for conversation.

Also there seems to be some futzy clutter in the left corner of the LR/DR (my left looking at the photo) which I would remove. That's where I was suggesting a narrow glass and brass etagere, but nothing would be fine too. If you angled the chair or sofa to use more of the middle space in the room, you would give both areas more room to breathe. Also, any chance you could hang something wonderful in the way of lighting over the table? I'm not lovin' the white lamp but I realize one deals with what one has, but I would at least try to get a softer shade for it and maybe paint it if possible.
