Neat bed. Navy and Lime work well with gray. Maybe he would like the Navy and you would get the bright with the lime elegant but fun.

But if you love purple you should find a way... I love purple with lots of white/gray and woods..regal

I would find a rug the incorporates all the rooms colors and then find curtains in one solid color. For example, a blue/green rug like below with blue curtain sheers. Another place you can add your accent color is your bedside lamps....something to think about. Good luck!
