we only have one semi-large shop within 30 minutes driving. If she closes, we are in deep trouble.

With all the online shopping going on now, it surprises me that any of the small local shops are able to survive. I realize that shopping online is convenient for many in today's world but there's nothing like being there in person and experiencing the visual and emotional impact of all the wonderful fabrics that you can actually touch and compare with each other. Plus the interaction that usually accompanies the LQS - classes, instruction, services, etc.

I don't trust the colors I see on my screen. When I'm shopping for a particular quilt, I take a folder with pieces of the fabric I'm using. At the store I take bolts to the window for comparison. Natural light is the same everywhere - the store lights are not.

That's sad to hear, Lois! Several shops in the Orlando area have closed for the same reason. Evidently it's hard to sell a quilt shop.

I don’t have shops close to me, so I buy the majority of my fabrics on line. However, when I do go to a quilt shop, I always buy. Trying to do my part . Just yesterday, I was on the other side of town and so I stopped by a very, very small shop that is mostly modern fabrics...spent too much, but oooh the fabric was so much prettier in person - had to get some!

All linens...Jungle by rifle paper company, forage by noodle head and balboa, not sure of designer. These are not meant to go together but just too pretty not to share.

I understand perfectly. It's so sad when that happens. I fly to Portland every month to see to Mom's care. On my drive back to the airport I always swing by a large warehouse fabric store I love - think the old Mary Jo's. This last week on the way back to the airport I made my pilgrimage and it was gone! It's just a big, empty building now. It just broke my heart. It ruined the whole trip for me. I didn't even know if they had a sale - not that I need anything. Fondling fabric always made me feel better on these sad trips.

I just got an email from our LQS that they are expanding! They are having a big sale this weekend, so I'll pop in and see what's happening.

Val, those fabrics are terrific. I love them.

Linda, I'm so sorry - taking away the one bright spot on your sad travel.

Bev, I hope their expansion is a good sign. I was so excited when Blue Bamboo doubled the size of their space and picked up many new fabric lines. Then, a year later, the owner decided to move west to be with her significant other and closed the shop. I guess the only constant is change.

My granddaughter just posted this site to me. I've never heard of it. It's in southeast Indiana. Pohlar's Fabrics in Liberty Indiana. Hope I get a chance to check it out. :-)
