Flannel sheets question

My LLBean flannel sheets, "made in Portugal," say to wash in warm water, but I have a hard time with that and wash them in hot water and Tide With Bleach powder. But tell me, do you think enzymes and oxygen bleach are too strong for flannel sheets? Do you wash yours in a gentler detergent, like the "natural" Purex formula, or another? How do you wash your flannel sheets, please?

I wash my LL Bean flannel sheets in very hot water, but use Tide liquid Free & Clear. Works great. I don’t think you need bleach if you use very hot water.

In my lifetime of experience with flannel sheets of all brands, they will all pill and lose their thickness over time. I think you have to be realistic about that. I replace them with new every other year, i.e. they last two winter seasons. IMHO the two best brands are LL Bean and Pinzon 190-gram flannel sheets (sold on Amazon).

You didn’t mention color. I never buy flannel sheets in colors, just white/cream. The colored ones fade no matter how careful you are, or if you wash only in cold water, it won’t matter, they will lose their color. Also if any in your family uses creams or skin medications, colored flannel sheets will spot, so I only buy white/cream.

I don't have much experience with flannel but seems reasonable that it should be handled with minimal agitation like wool.

Flannel is nothing more than brushed cotton unless like so many textiles now days it has a synthetic added to it...stay away from flannel sheets that say...cotton/poly blend...these are the ones that WILL pill.

Good ole hot water is fine on cotton flannel sheets besides there's no way I'm sleeping on sheets that are less than clean which is what you can expect from sheets not washed in hot or at least deeply warm.

TWB Powder is fine on white or very light flannels as is Tide F&G on all color flannels.

Sheets today are a crap shoot as to how well they will stand the test of time.

I buy Company Store velvet flannel - 100% cotton, truly soft as velvet, and no pills ever. They last for years. I use clorox on my set of white ones, but just hot water and oxy bleach on the colored ones.

I have always washed my flannel sheets in hot water with no problems. I don't think warm is good enough for bedding.
