Pop of color? BUT which color?

Please help. I’m looking to add color to this room, but I’m overwhelmed with so many choices....
I’m looking for pillows, Knick knacks, etc.

I’m open to suggestions. ( I can’t do teal/turquoise)

Thanks in advance.

Would you be open to the idea of replacing the mirror and 2 prints with one large piece of art? And a new coffee table & side table & lamp? I think adding some silver/chrome into the room would elevate it by adding another texture and a good way to do it would be through the tables using glass/silver. Is the chair up next to the sofa because of the Christmas tree? Love your rug.

Can you post photos of the rest of the room?

Your space is very neutral, pretty much any color or colors will go with it. I would start by finding some art for over the Couch in place of the mirror and 2 pictures. Monitors are notorious for being off color wise but it looks as if your walls are celadon or a light grayed green?

Greens/ limes/Navy look great with Greige...

    Red also looks great

Here are options for panoramic art over the sofa.

You can use an upholstered cocktail ottoman to add a punch of color. Combine with a few C tables to hold drinks.

IMO the end table should be more contemporary. There are lots of options out there in a round shape

If you don't want an ottoman there is a matching coffee table, but that adds no additional color.

Agree some chrome for tables would help. Or, black with glass. Something that brings in some reflectivity.

I don't mind the pics and mirror, but the frame on left seems to be a smidge higher than the right. Jarring.

I like the rug. But, up against the sofa (and it would appear, with the fireplace stone or brickwork) it just seems to make for a great big expanse of g-r-e-y. Why not find a(nother) rug you really really like and use that for your color inspiration?

And, since you already have so much neutral/grey in the room, I think - ditch the brown.

I would pick the warm gold and rust tones from your two botanical paintings. This would also complement your rug.

And cue my broken record. No "pops of color". There are many things wrong with your space that adding in a random color is not going to help. The biggest thing wrong is it looks like you have a sectional with a chair pushed up to that with an ottoman pushed up to that. Your sectional needs to be brought into the center of the room and turned so that the longest part of the sectional is facing what appears to be a fireplace. Then separate it from the chair to complete the U shaped seating configuration, and remove the ottoman because you already have a coffee table. The next worst thing in your space is what's hanging on the walls. Remove the mirror and put the two art work pieces closer together. Then focus on "layering" in accessories. That is where your focus should be, not on color.

I love the idea of adding a large work of art over the sofa. Also, lime or navy would look great. My colour suggestion is plum, that greyed purple that's practically a neutral and looks fab with every green.

cpaul1, I think the word you meant was "cue" not "queue".

It might help if you showed the other angles of the room, including the fireplace and any other spaces your living area is open to. All of this factors into any choices, layout or color.

I agree with cpaul1...remove the mirror... put two art pieces together, side by side, few inches apart. A pop of color may be yellow... just a couple of throw pillows and a throw... and something yelliwish on the coffee table... a book or tray. Pull out sofa from wall, as Paul suggested.

I saw this room and thought of your space. I agree with the others to add different art, and lighten your coffee table. I don't think you need to specifically add a certain color.

The browns in your room seem heavy to me. Hints of gold with the gray look nice...

Too many pillows look cluttered. You may use one or two which match the sofa, but contrast will give the arrangement more life. Firm pillows stay neater than soft pillows. Take a pillow cover which matches the sofa with you when you look at pillows. Your rug goes beautifully with the sofa, and it offers color possibilities (for accessories) than you have used.
Art will bring in additional color suggestions for accents. Pillows in a printed design which includes the sofa color and rug colors would look good. You can mix prints and geometric patterns if the colors match.
The photo below shows a traditional print fabric, an Ikat pillow, a solid knit throw and an Oriental rug in one room. It works because the colors match. You can do combinations of print and pattern in any style room.

Love your rug! Looks great with the sectional. More photos of the space would be helpful.

I have 10 yr old down-filled pillows (soft) on my sofa and they look as good as the day I bought them. It really comes down to the quality of the "stuffing" not the firmness or softness.

Agree with Tedbixby.....I will ONLY use down pillows (actually a mix of feathers and down). A couple of seconds of fluffing they they are as perfect as the day I purchased them as opposed to “firm” fiber filled or foam pillows that can easily lose their shape for good and there is no way to remedy them. Also, a nice soft and cushy pillow is much more comfy to lean against rather than a really stiff one that actually fights against your body. I wouldn’t do all down fill (as they pretty much collapse as soon as you lean on them), but a mixture of feathers and down works really well. I’ve also used feathers, down, and fiber...that works well too....but must have down for the easy fluffability.

And down filled is heaven on the head when taking a nap.. LOL...

I agree with the down pillow comments in most cases...but I think your situation ...with a couch with so many sections and cushions..it tends to look disheveled ..... more cushy crunched up pillows....just adds to the cluttered look.......fewer...firmer.....more supportive pillows ...like lumbar shapes are a better choice ...these can be used for head and lower back support and add a crisper touch to a relatively “slouchy” couch....also relieves the need for constant plumping and straightening...

I think if a person has a dishevelled looking sofa they should go with that and have dishevelled looking pillows too.

Isn't the trick to down pillows is getting the cover 1 size smaller than the down fill insert? I find that you get a great looking pillow and comfort. As well as getting appropriate sized pillows for the sofa.

Less brown and a little black will help punch up this room, too.

Its a nice room , don't overdo it ...keep it simple ...but add some flowers to the room ...and see what you can do with the mirror and two paintings...they don't go together ...makes no sense ...either get a large , long mirror over the couch ...or get a nice painting ..if you don't have the budget for it take the mirror down and put the two paintings off center together ...play with the layout until you are happy ...the warm orange ...but only a small amount of color is needed except for a wonderful case with white lilies , tulips ...or colorful flowers will do a quick trick .

    Not a Pro.

As mentioned above the art and mirror above the sofa does not work.

Once you find some beautiful art for above the sofa, you will find the color that you need for your pop of color through out the room. It will be in the art.

Sometimes all you need is the colorful art to give you that pop.

This is a very nice room and I wonder if a pop of color is what you’re really needing or are you needing a pop of ‘something’. This is a nice neutral - love the rug and sofa. If it were my space I wouldn’t add color for a pop but instead introduce textures and materials - it’s surprising how those elements pop a room. I would go with shades you have in your rug, I would add glass (clear and mercury) and wood. Also agree with pillow inserts needing to be down filled for movement. Nothing worse than a flat pillow :/.

Love Groveraxles pix. Adding the sage or olive green is great. A similar shade of mustard would brighten it as well. If you don't want to change coffee table, add a round woven tray to the coffee table.
