You might want to use pleated shades that will go both up and down.

Top down/bottom up shades, as Beverly mentioned, are one solution. There are several styles to choose from. You said you didn't care for curtains outside the bay but they can be done as stationary panels outside the area and are pretty if you want softer look.

I appreciate the great advice above on the window treatment for my bay window and am now wondering if anyone has ideas for my sliding door pictured here. I do not want vertical blinds. I was thinking of curtains, but how/where would they hang? Inside mount? If I mount on the outside above the slider, would that look out of balance with the windows on either side? I don’t think I want to do curtains on the windows.

I would absolutely do 4 panels to give that wall interest and softness.

Luckyblueeye, that room is pretty much a blank slate right now and could definitely use some interest and softness! We've just had the clear finish oak floors installed and have that gray sofa with SW Aesthetic White on the walls. The rug is too small and isn't staying. Still trying to figure out color scheme.
