Congrats on the new house! The first thing that sticks out like a sore thumb are the vertical blinds and the sad builder fade light fixtures. You can add a lot of character by replacing them with something that suits your style. There are so many beautiful inexpensive fixtures out there, I buy from Overstock and Wayfair a ton. The other thing you need to decide is what kind of color scheme you want to introduce. Looks like you’re planning on doing neutral walls, which is fine, but think about what kind of colors you’d like to add in the way of an area rug, pillows, art work, etc. What style are you going for?

Before painting, I would pick out area rugs and make sure the wall color works with them. I’d add area rugs everywhere. Unless you’re afraid of the dining area getting too messy. There are a lot of outdoor rugs that are pretty enough for indoor, if that’s the case. Polypropylene is also very durable. Also, end tables and lamps are needed - add interest with height, but add nice lighting, as well. Definitely would look better with nicer window treatments. Curtain panels always add some life, but make sure they have enough body - lined panels are best, but if not lined, make sure you buy extra panels.

Curtains in the living room, for sure. Curtains to replace vertical blinds, as well. Yes to new light fixtures and when you replace the, hang them lower. The one in the dining room should be about 32 - 36" over the dining table (maybe a bit higher with the high ceilings, but I'll eyeball it later).

What is that space in your last photo for? Is that the view when you enter the house?

In the dining area, use wall-to-wall ceiling-height drapes for interest and for a great improvement in the acoustics of the space. All the hard surfaces amplify sound.

Thanks for all of your advice, def wanting to replace the vertical blinds in all rooms. Do you think the horizontal blinds need to be updated in the dining room and living room also? Just feel like this home is kind of blah, really need to get some furniture, (first time home buyer, moved from parents), so I don’t have any accumulated furniture and/or decor. (Crate and bags are moving, just got a puppy and crate training). Sorry they’re in the photo. Just trying to figure out where to layout furniture and thinking of what to buy..... going for a modern/rustic look. I’m also painting the living room the Realist beige by Sherwin-Williams. Awful trim and door are being painted white. Any help is appreciated.. I’ll also post photos of bathroom for any ideas.. thanks..
