I need help in finishing my kitchen!! Please!!

last modified: 4 years ago

I started a re-do on my kitchen last spring and just can't seem to finish . I got new granite(snowfall) and new backsplash and changed the paint from deep wine red to green. Now I don't know what to do . I am also enclosing a picture of my living room so you can see my color palette in the house. (reds, yellows, and greens) The last picture is a more accurate depiction of the kitchen color. It was taken before I decorated walls and got new white chairs(that need to be re-upholstered)

I need help with window treatment, lighting over table and sink and upholstery for the chairs.

Thank you for your help.

Parker, hugs to you… I have friends going through this. I’m glad to see that you are nourishing yourself by doing some things that are enjoyable for you… And focussing on the things that can still be done. Your house is looking lovely and I love the old world Santa!

Thank you ladies!! They are always fun to make.

glschisler- the houses are delicious. :) I started eating my husbands! I don't want to wreck mine! LOL

Thank you Flo. My granddaughter will be happy you singled her out. Hers was scenes from Wicked. :)

Liasch- every year I think we will outdo ourselves and create absolute masterpieces but its hard! Those blasted m and m's and gumdrops slide down the roofs and trees etc so you have to hold for a while. I get so impatient. Everything takes time. We worked for 3 hours! But had fun. Ate lots of candy and had fun Christmas music on. I just remembered we didn't wear our silly Christmas headbands from the Dollar Store. They add to the merriment.

Karon- nice to hear from you. Are you doing good I hope?

Molly- I'm glad you approved of our ruthlessness!

Good morning ladies! I am starting a quick little project( but are they ever quick and easy?!)

My entry rug is looking terrible. Its our only entry to the house - not even a back door so.....the new rug has to be more practical. We bring in a lot of dirt and snow. I got a pretty one before but can't even find one again that wasn't too busy. Now I am thinking a black and white. This entry still has to look cute because it leads right into the kitchen and hall to the living room. I pulled in my hall rug- totally wrong size- but just to get the idea. I thought maybe I need a little black on the wall? Here's the old rug-poor thing and picture of a black and white one there. Need new chair covering and something on the wall in that corner. We never did finish this area. I remember Seajay not liking the yellow picture on the wall at all, and there it still sits!!

I like both of those rugs Parker they're both pretty unless you can find a plain black one for mud and snow that's low profile would be good too

I also like the rug you found and I think patterned black is a good choice for hiding dirt!

I don't think he need to add anything black in the hallway your chairs are dark enough plus you got that painting hanging it looks good with those two rugs whatever one you choose

That black and white one is a good choice that you show in the photo here. ..speaking from personal experience… The pattern is small and varied. Sooo…it won’t show up every little bit of stuff that’s tracked into the house immediately. Large black areas tend to show everything right away. The small pattern rugs are much more effective.

Hi Parker! I’ve been thinking about you with all the chaos in MN. Hope all is well. I saw these at Target, but like your choice as well.

Hi! Parker! So good to see you and your lovely home. I love your first rug. It nods to your reds in the living room and dining area. Wonder if we could find some red geraniums like that art you have?

    Hi Flo!

How are you doing? How is your husband doing? My DH had his drivers license taken away in October so that is a big change by we are doing ok. He's VERY forgetful- VERY- but we still are having fun and busy doing things. Today we volunteered to fill bags with Feed My Starving Children. It feels good to help. We are so blessed.

Anyway, what rug did you like? You said the first one?The first one I posted was my dirty old one. :) Was it the colorful one after I posted the black one from my hall?

Molly- thanks for checking in. I liked the first rug you posted. The blue threw me but I still liked it. I looked it up on the site but I think it won't look good in a 4X6 size. The main focus is the blue peacocks so I feel the blue will be predominate.

Hi Liasch!- I know I should be practical and go black and white but you know me and color! Maybe we will find a cool black and white one?

I don’t remember how much room you have on that corner wall but perhaps a black framed mirror with small shelf could create more functional spot! https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/ebern-designs-floating-hallway-cabinet-lowell-living-room-w112108896.html?piid=200900364. Lots out there. You can pick styling you like.

Flo- is this the rug you liked?

I don’t think The geranium rug will work because it’ll really show dirt. We need to keep I think a chair in that corner because DH always sits down to put on his shoes we had thought about maybe having a mirror up above. DH likes to look at himself before he leaves the house. 🤪

Yes. I have had black background rugs and they are great for spots like yours. That is a nice choice. And you could pair with stripped fabric for your chair.

Hi, Parker! ❤️ The floral rug you posted appears to have the perfect colors for your home!

I remember when you worked on your entry last time, and that the rug and the print (?) above the chair complemented each other. Might you want to pull one or more colors from the new rug for a new print? or mirror frame??? and/or for the chair seat?

Hi Dsimber! I decided to not get the rug I posted. I was hesitant about that big flower in the middle because it wasn’t my colors, but I thought I could work with that. But it turned out when I really looked into the reviews ,that the big flower that I didn’t really like is the focal point of the rug. For some reason, I was thinking they would reduce the pattern to fit into a 4 x 6 Silly me. I was possessed the last two days looking online continuously for a rug that would work and I was happy to find my old rug and so I ordered it again. So happy! I will find something new for the wall though – I never did finish that corner. You are right -I need to pull something from the rug into a new print.

Here is the rug I ordered except in a 4x6(the previous one was a 3 x 5 and when we come in the house, we still managed to make footprints on the wood floor because we don’t all fit in there)

I thought that flower was yellow! Great that you found the same one you have, and I think the larger size will look very nice in addition to reducing footprints. I love the way you take action, Parker!

I received the rug and I really like it. Had a feeling I would since I had the same print before and liked it. But this one is clean!!! So nice! And bigger so we don't track in as much. Remember this is our only entrance with all the mud and snow and rain from Minnesota. (We do have a lot of sunshine too!)

What can I do different? I am willing to change fabric on chair but this fabric is spot on in color. I need to change up corner wall by the chair. I thought of black mirror? Could I put wreath on garage door?

I am stuck having DH 's hats on rack and some of his shoes there. Sometimes he has 6 there. I told him only two( under the chest). The rest I will throw into the garage ( and maybe throw far if I am upset! :) Next pic will be a possible mirror?

    Thank you for thinking!

    Mirror

Yes for a wreath on the door! I put one on our laundry closet door. The mirror is an excellent option. And of course the rug is perfect! 😊
