What are the foundation requirements for an outdoor fireplace?

We have an existing cement pool deck and want to add a fireplace and pergola outdoor living space

    Depends on your location/climate. In most cases you will probably be fine with a floating concrete pad, recommend 12" thick on compacted stone. But if the patio and fireplace are large enough, having concrete footings below the frost line would ensure no shifting.

    Sorry but we're located in the Niagara Region in Ontario, Canada. The premium might be a little high for us to go to Houston. I'm sure there are some very fine contractors in Houston familiar with this work.
