Love it or leave it? Help please

I thought this was really neat, but my family hates it. Now I’m torn. Honestly, is this a keeper or just weird? The coffee table top is mine, so it’s the base that is in question. Too much? Too different? Go for it? Opinions appreciated. Thanks!

It’s definitely unique! I really like it!

I love those tables. I would love to have one, but online they are $$$$.

The glass top is a family piece so,it has to be a keeper. Haha. But, I do see what you mean! We are military so our home decor sometimes fits the house and sometimes doesn’t at all. It is not ideal, but I try to just think forward and go with pieces I think we will enjoy in our future/permanent home. And I love natural materials,so that’s why I liked this base so much. My family is not seeing the vision though.....so I’m unsure about the combo now!

    Love it!

I like it, but it depends on the rest of the room.

I would find another base for the glass top. Love the wood base, but it doesn't go with the top you have now.

    I like it.

I love it, just not with that top.

Is the table edge metal or wood? What if you painted the underside of the glass black?

    Leave it.

Both the top and bottom are great...separately. I would find a simple glass top for the base, and find a new base for the top.

I know that glass and brass top but for the life of me I can't remember for certain what the base was...I'm thinking it was a medium wood tone bamboo and it might have come from Jeffco or some other company at that time. Or, it could possibly be from LaBarge that would have had a brass base. Hmmm...think I'll look it up just out of curiosity. They were very popular in the 70's and 80's...well, even before that. So you're military! I can relate and how! So who in the family hates the base? You know and I know with every move things change and most especially when not all items make it in one piece. I wouldn't sweat the small stuff. Look at it this way...you have a family "heirloom" with a base that can change with a new find at each base. LOL. It's fine until you stumble across another "find"!

Yes, it was Jeffco. They had a "rectangular" shape (yours) and a round. So this a pic of the original base for the round. Jeez, they want $750.00 for the round which is about what it sold for originally....I think? Anyway, here's the pic.

This one is the shape of yours with a faux bamboo base by Baker. I'm researching these for you so you can know what the intended bases were.

I am assuming yours has a brass surround...perhaps it is wood?...I can't really tell, but many of them came with a bamboo (faux) base, which would be very easy to find on Ebay or just by googling . All of this is just fyi and to satisfy my curiosity (and memory). LOL

LOVE the base! KEEPER....(but with plane glass on top)!

I will be against the grain here but I wouldn’t have it

I think a little more distant photo could be helpful here? Loving the base! The rimmed top just might be the perfect update to this look.

Thank you all for your opinions! Sadly, we did have the original bamboo base, but it was ruined in one of our moves. I’ve looked everywhere for a new one with no luck. Just the sets. :(.

Love it! A unique piece that adds a natural element to the décor. Perhaps changing what you place on top would make it more visually appealing for others in the family. I definitely would keep it until you're done with all PCSs and are in your permanent home. ;)

Well, let me see if I can find the base without top. Seems to me I've seen them available. Ebay is most likely the best bet and you just have to keep checking.

I found this on Ebay for $350.00. I would contact the seller and tell him your story (military) about the base and simply ask if he would be willing to sell only the base. You have nothing to lose AND he most likely would make more money overall by selling the top separately. I'll give you the thread. Let me know if you have success!

I think this is fantastic. I agree that replacing the top with a non-framed piece of glass would be better. These tables are all the rage right now!

Gosh, you all are fantastic! I’m definitely going to inquire about the base. Thank you so much!!! I can’t wait until we have our forever home to see how all of this will finally come together. But, you are right—until then I’ll find joy in every piece. All these moves gives each a story (and a scratch or 20 to go with it! Haha).

Love the base, not the top. They don't go well together. I recently bought this table from Houzz and it looks great in my contemporary beach home. Maybe utilize the top in another room...
