We do have purchased amber bulb lights. Is that what you mean by opaque ?

Opaque means frosted bulbs. Amber bulbs will give off a yellowish light.

I think it looks good. Keep the clear bulbs. If you were to install opaque as teamaltese suggests, the bulbs would be too visible.

You just need to get used to it. Yes, the chain is a bit short. If you kept the extra links when it was hung, and if you didn’t cut the wiring, you may be able to add a couple of links. The lantern bottom should probably be even with the top of the door frame trim molding.

opaque (frosted) or textured (ribbed) glass; leave the clear bulbs inside; this hanging light is very nice but seems too long / narrow for that spot.. if you can use it somewhere else maybe get one half as long and wider..

It's very pretty, but I think why it looks not quite right to you is that it should be a wider, fuller light fixture. I agree with fifamom.

It gives off hideous, harsh, flat light. That's what's wrong. Lower the lumens of the bulbs a LOT. You just need enough light to navigate the space. Want more light? Use a table lamp.

It looks a bit outdated. Also, the light pattern it projects onto the walls is really distracting. A fixture that gives a more uniform ambient light pattern would be better in my opinion. So, as others have mentioned a translucent glass would help eliminate the wild pattern on the walls. Good luck.
