table sell, keep or paint?

So excited. I am painting my walls next week. I decided on Benjamin Moore Shoreline with BM super white trim in the kitchen, family room and living room. my dining room will be conventry gray with super white below chair rail. I am also getting my floors done the following week. I am starting fresh with all new furniture, area rugs, window treatments, etc. However, I am not sure what do with this table. I like the curves (I am into Feng shui) and I think it's different. If I keep it, I will move it to the entrance with a round mirror above it and some decorative pieces. The problem is not sure if it fits my vision and might be too traditional. Does it matter if I like the piece? I wanted something alittle more rustic and distressed. Do I paint and distressed it? Would that work? Some my options are sell, keep as is, or distress it.

Any feedback or ideas appreciated.

You could certainly paint and distress it, but my guess is that since you have to ask the question, you'd be better off selling this one and buying something you love. A compromise might be to keep it till your remodeling is finished, and place it in the entryway with the mirror and decorative pieces you'd like to use in the space. If it doesn't "spark joy" (thank you Marie Kondo!!) replace it.

I don't think it would be sad if you painted it. it's a mass produced veneered piece. nothing special.

if you want a distressed look, then go w/chalk paint. I've painted over 100 pieces and am familiar with just about everything on the market. You can achieve a driftwood look if you know what to do. Research the how-to's.

It would also look good in a shiny lacquer/enamel finish.

if you want more of a rustic look, then look for a diff console

Sell it. It is too nice looking to make it look like it belongs in a barn.

It doesn't sound as if it will go with your new furniture. Sell it and buy something that will.

thanks for the input. I am selling it.

I'd love to know if you do sell it and what you can get for it. Pieces like that are not in demand right now, and unfortunately sometimes you can't give them away.

yeah. I will see. If I don't sell it, I will donate it. will let you know.

I am also selling custom Bernhardt chairs and sofa. I am hoping to be able to sell that as well. I would feel terrible to put furniture that I spent thousands and barely used on the front of my lawn on garbage day. I would much rather donate.

If you love it, paint it. Chalk paint is a breeze.

Reading along, I think if you are ok with giving it away, then why not try to paint it and see. Maybe you will love it and if not you can still see if you can sell it or give it away. I think you have nothing to lose.

That's a lovely piece of furniture. Even though it's "just a veneer piece", that's some gorgeous high-quality veneer - looks like four-way book matched flame grain, possibly mahogany? Hard to tell from the pics.

If you paint it, you lose that beautiful nuance (forever because you can't really strip paint off veneer - it'll dissolve the glue and render the veneer and underlying surface unglueable).

I'd try it out in your new space (as is) and if it doesn't work out, sell or donate as is.

thanks. I am redoing my basement in the next couple of months, maybe I should save it for that space.

As others have posted, you are going to have difficulty selling the table as brown traditional used furniture has glutted the market.

I just unloaded a lot of it. I found homes for some of the people at the last minute but donating it was really the only option. I had emailed pictures of some of the better pieces to large used furniture stores in my city and no one was interested. I posted an ad in craigslist and no one was interested.

It is a nice piece as it is so I personally wouldn't paint it. I would donate it and hope that someone somewhere happened to like the style and needed a table - plus the benefit is a tax deduction plus the charity of your choice makes some money for a worthy cause.
